    Hi all,

I am considering buying a site, which has some potential challenges.

The only entry to the site is through a small arch and I am concerned there would not be enough space for an excavator to go through.

Do you know what is the min size of a standard excavator commonly used to build a residential house?

    Thanks

Standard Size would be 10 tonne, but depends on what the builder/contractor has in place.

Maybe you can access the site through a neighbors field/access way? You will be taking delivery during construction stages so this will be an issue.

    Can trucks access the site?
There will be far more regular truck movements . As said above, excavator can access from any neighbouring field with permission. Concrete trucks and general deliveries might be a bigger issue.

You are both right. truck movements would be the main issue

I know cars can fit, but I will check about the arch width and height

What is concerning is that even if it fits, the arch belongs to another neighbour, so any damage that a truck might cause due to lack of space might be a big issue with the neighbour

    cheers

You can hire excavators down to 1 metre wide. the trucks / skips will be your issue.

The width might not be the issue here it's the height of the arch even a 3 ton mini digger with a fixed cab will be ovet 7ft high

    Ok. Good point

I am gonna take accurate measurements of the arch

    Thanks

As a word of warning, a full concrete lorry might fit under but and empty one might not!

Is taking down the arch for the duration of the build an option, save alot of hassle. Or a temp entrance through an adjacent property
