Most of sept 16 have gone into templemore now, vetting by local garda on you and your family would have been completed by now. So if you have a high oom April is promising,

Plenty have but a large enough number have not. A max of roughly 800 can have gone from that campaign not taking into account those that were left from Jan16. So there is still a good number left from Sept. What state they are in vetting wise and so on is another question. And its the crime and security side of vetting that takes time more so than local station.

P.S. not trying to be nasty just have seen too many get hopes up time and again and be left waiting. Of course some could get April just don't bank on or assume it.

Hi guys, just wondering can ye answer this question? I'm signed off and waiting to get called. Im hopeful of April/May intake. My question is about taking a hoilday within the two years of training. Im a groomsman for a weeding in OZ in December '18. If I get May intake the 34 weeks in the college will be up In November and then on to the next phase of training. Taking off time during college time is hard I heard but out in a station different? Prob need 10 days...

Hope it all works out for ya. Good your all signed off that must be a relief however long it took. Guards I was chatting to a few years back had to get the leave approved by the District Super but Id not depend on that info as its now 5 years old.

I'd say it's gonna be hard to get time off it also depends of your super Int and people you will be stationed to work with.

Finally past my PCT, did my repeat there. Everyone I spoke to were Sep 16 like myself, some repeating, some just doing their PCT for the first time. So there's still a fair few left from the Sep 16 campaign. A lot of tears were shed by those who failed their repeat.

    Well done you
What was the average age there would you say ?

And the people who failed do you think they failed due to nerves or ill preparation or overweight etc ?

Thanks, I'd say the average age was early to mid 20s mostly.
From what I saw, a lot of people failed the beep test. Not being sexist but it was mostly women I saw fail that test. Saw one poor girl give up and break down in tears there in the hall. A smaller few failed the push ups, mostly guys. From those i saw who failed, weight definitely seems to have been a factor as most were overweight to some extent which probably ties into the fact that they didn't prepare enough.

I myself failed the first time simply because I was too heavy and hadn't prepared enough. After that, I bought a 3 month gym membership and went 3-4 times a week running the treadmill, doing abs exercises and push ups. Based on personal experience, a healthy weight and preparation is essential. If anything, it'll give you confidence which played an important factor for me. As a result, I sailed through my repeat with relatively little effort despite my nerves.

Well done, glad it went well for ya. I imagine there was id say that's a bitter pill to swallow. Some certainly do underestimate the test. And if your falling down on the bleep test that requires a lot of drive and the right approach to get through it. Again well done, glad it went to plan this time, you're hard work was worth it.

I got a place in the last call up but deferred. Ive an OOM in between 650/700. What are the chances of getting a place this time around?

Well done! What happens those who fail repeat? No 3rd chance? Personally, I think PCT was super easy. I'm not super fit but wasn't hard at all. There was a girl who failed too but she had like 5 cigarettes before entering the beep test. Nerves? I don't know I don't have them I guess!

I loved the number on PCT about 25 people, we got to know each other. I was expecting much more people on that day there.

Also I know a guy who got Feb intake and he is telling me life in Templemore isn't easy - very strict!!! You aren't treated like a child nor like a student. Curfew after 12, no pictures, gone from social media, not to leave campus while in your uniform. Very army like!!!

    PARKING - nightmare!

Those who have children can request for special leave (night for going home) but not guaranteed you will get it. College from 9-5 after 5pm there's nothing to do!

Yeah, I've heard stories on older posts on boards.ie about life in templemore. But the way I see it, they've spent a lot of money on examining and training you so they want you to pass to get their money's worth.
In relation to your question about a third go, there isn't one. Two chances and that's it, same with the medical.
I was speaking to one person there however who claimed they sustained an injury while doing a beep test on their second PCT try. They were discussing appealing the decision to fail with one of the instructors there so there may be some sort of appeals process in a limited number of circumstances. That's just what I saw and heard from talking to them anyway.

Find it surprising to hear people failing the beep test, found it very easy at the open day and that was to level 5. Must be heartbreaking to fail if you've put work in.
Do many fail the sit ups

I didn't personally see many fail the sit ups. For the beep test, it's only when people started getting to mid-level 7 that I saw one or two dropping out. It does get very intense very quickly at that stage with people who have poor cardio vascular fitness, myself included when I first failed.

It can be hard for people who are not running ,I run a little and still was breathless reaching 8.2! And also turning takes a lot out of you

The nerves can make people more breathless, plus many run too fast in the early stages and waste energy. Count the seconds and pace yourself. As for the turns make the turn as sharp and tight as you can. Turn on the ball of your foot almost as tight as doing an "about face" in marching drill.

Actually it seems you can get a third attempt at the PCT. I was down for my repeat a few weeks ago and there was a guy who said it was his third go at it. He was saying that you have to do all four parts of the test again though.

There's a sports club just down the road from the college, right at the main entrance and around the corner, good few park in there.

Do you actually get official notification when your vetting is cleared? Do you think there is any point in asking HR about my application status at this stage or better to just wait and see? Really hoping for an April call up...

Of course! Call them and say that you would like to know how far your application has gone by this day.

They will tell you if the vetting is cleared or not yet.

No you don't get any notifications about your application at all!!!

From which campaigne are you and whats your oom?

I rang them 2 weeks ago and they said my file is done and dusted and signed off which I was surprised as I only thought (and it looked like that) they only signing you off very close or the same day when offers go out but mines signed of now weeks ago.

    I'm 2016 oom late 800's

I'm Sept 2016 too, OOM mid 500's. Thanks for that, I didn't think I'd be able to get any info off of them yet. I must give them a call so :)
