Hi all. Can I still use old tags now or are they not permitted since the upgraded version came out last year. These are the tags that were pre bvd version so I would have to order the bvd buttons again..
Had a few early arrivals and new tags haven't arrived yet and have a herd test next week.
Found a few from about 6yrs ago I hadn't used.
    Thanks

Did you skip numbers? I don't understand

Yeah, when the bvd version came out i left a few of the previous yrs unused so as to avoid using button tags at the time. These are the ones I intend use now. The numbers go way back but obviously the numbers have never been registered.

You have 21 days to tag a calf and 7 more to register it...that may get you over the inspection.

Not advertising but Cormac tags say that you will have tags within 1 week of ordering...

Do newborn calves less than six weeks old have to be tested at the herd test?

Yeah but it's herd test I have so would prefer have them tested. Haven't changed to cormac as have 2 mullinahone taggers and it'll be quicker than loading 1 cormac unit twice.. along with the cost of new tagger! I'd only use 100 tags in 3yrs. Who knows, I may not be in sucklers by then!!

Ordered tags recently and had tags within a week. I ordered sheep tags a few times and always had them within a week too.

No, calves under 42 days do not have to be tested on your annual round test but they will need to be tested within 12 months or before moving out of the herd, iykwim.
