    CH7465LG-NCIP-4.50.18.20-3-NOSH
Is the firmware on my Hub 3 and still has Modem Mode

    Modem Mode = Bridging

If you don't see Modem Mode i'ts more likely because you have an Ipv6 ds-lite address instead of a Ipv4 address

To have modem mode option your Hub 3 modem must be using an Ipv4 address

If your on a Ipv6 Ds Lite address you can request Virgin change your Hub 3 to an Ipv4 address

This is mine in Modem Mode
    Home
    Modem Mode

When I click Modem Mode I can change it back to Router Mode if I need to

When Virgin have changed your Hub 3 back to Ipv4 address
It might not show up unless you to do a Factory reset first of the Hub 3 before Modem Mode shows up as an option

This is what the Hub 3 Menu screen looks like before Hub 3 has been put into Modem Mode

    421763.png

After Hub 3 has been put into Modem Mode the Hub 3 web uses a different address to access modem log in page.

When in Router Mode Login Page is 192.168.0.1
When in Modem Mode Login Page is 192.168.100.1

After you changed Virgin Hub 3 to Modem Mode use lan 4 port of the Virgin Hub 3 to connect to your own wireless router Wan Port

Don't use any of the other Lan ports of the Virgin Hub 3 when it's in Modem Mode

A restart had been done but not a reset (there should be no need to really). Reset resolved it.

    Thanks.

Why only port 4? Does this help with any particular issue?

It's the instructions Virgin provide in the UK on how to use Modem Mode

They mention only lan port 4 beside the pinhole reset is to be used as in last lan port beside where the Virgin coax cable connects
They mention lan ports 1-3 are not active when lan port 4 in use with modem mode

I have tested using lan port 1 and not noticed any issues and to me is active but I have followed Virgin instructions on the UK website and used only lan port 4 to connect to my own wireless router

Virgin Ireland last time I looked which was months ago does not provide instructions regarding modem mode it might have changed since I last looked

I have not tested the Virgin hub using 2 lan connections of the Virgin Hub same time in modem mode to see if there would be any issues but I expect there would be

My Asus wireless router wan is connected to lan port 4 on the Virgin Hub 3

Yet to test it but its likely you can lease at least three pubs from it.

You can. A few years back I remember testing site-to-site VPNs with two Sonicwalls plugged into it.

I don't think it's fair to compare VM UK with VM Ireland - we have far more in common with UPC networks on the continent than we do with VM UK.

Does modem mode work for Irish customers? Is it just IPv4 request that's needed?
I'm looking to get a separate wireless router with much more detail controls and logging but need bridge mode for full functionality.

    We are Irish customers :)
Compal CH7465 is the Virgin Hub 3 in Ireland it has Modem Mode as long as you on a IPv4 address

Do you have the Virgin Media Hub

Modem Mode is the same as Bridge Mode

You can use your own wireless/router of your choice as in purchase whatever one you want and let it do all the routing and wireless functions that it's capable of using
    Best ones are from Asus

If you are on a Dslite IPv6 address you won't see option of Modem Mode
Just ask them to change you over to a IPv4 address

Thanks a lot. Will give them a call tomorrow to switch to IPv4.
I am looking between ASUS and TP-Link and ASUS does indeed look tastier...

Just a warning - there have been plenty of reports of customers who called them to do this being referred to their rip off premium number - you might be better making your request (in private with your account number) to the reps on VM boards forum.

Got through alright, called 1908 number. IPv4 will be enabled by tomorrow morning and bridge mode should be available.
Picking modem now... can't decide between ASUS and TP-Link. Everyone recommends ASUS RT-AC88U that costs an arm and a leg...

Would you not go for the cheaper ASUS RT-AC68U? I’ve had one of these for the last 18 months and it’s never let me down.

Looks like a solid device but the price is around €150 from what I can see. I found RT-AC1200+ from ASUS for €75, can't complain. Will be grabbing it later today

Dont think this was posted previously.

    https://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/12/03/intel_puma_chipset_firmware_fix/

Basically, H3.0 is pure garbage, even bridged. Testing firmware may fix it somewhat, but Im thinking of going to VDSL.
