Connection to surface water/storm drain

    Hi,
We are in the process of doing up a really old house. Since the house was built a separate storm and foul sewer system was installed in the road outside the house. The house was connected into the foul network. However, we were wondering if we can connect into the storm network for the surface water/hard standing areas on our property. The water services section of the local authority don't have anything to do with this and Irish Water don't deal with surface water - only foul sewerage and potable water. So, is it the environment section in the local authority who give permission to connect in to the storm sewer or where does one go? Thanks

Do you have planning permission? What does it stipulate wrt surface water drainage? All new runoff will require SUDS.

(It's definitely the water services dept that you should contact.)

No, don't need planning permission. The development is exempt re: the works we are doing. I have asked water services and it's not them. Yes, I am aware of SUDs alright..won't be new runoff...existing hard standing areas in a very old house. However, ground is getting soggy from the surface water. Could always create a soakpit I suppose. Thanks
