Shane is Shane - he’s obviously a chronic alconholic who at this stage is losing his faculties bit by bit. I personally don’t see the value in inteeviewing someone who can’t string a sentence together and Ray Darcy of all people was the wrong one to interview him - it was car crash stuff.
I found his missus to be a pain in the hoop tbh.

Darcy is like that annoying aunt who never shuts up when she visits the Nana in the home.

Shut up and let the other person talk!

I had an idea this was going to car crash TV when I seen he was going to be on it especially with D’Arcy trying to interview him. Ray isn’t the best interviewer at the best of times never mind trying to get responses from a man who unfortunately can’t string a full sentence together.
Shane has been this bad now for a number of years and it’s not down to what he drinking now put what he has but into his system for years.

Met Shane last year in a bar in Dublin while he wasn’t drinking anything heavy he was going through a fair few glasses of wine.
He seemed very laid back and was happy to pose for photos with the few tourists who spotted him.

I don't get this attitude....the boards attitude to drug addicts is hang 'em high and i'm part of this rabble.
this man is an alco and was a heavy user of heroin yet cause he wrote a few decent songs we celebrate him but nobody else in his situation gets such pass. few tunes be grand , me hole.
He is a dire role model and one that shouldn't be feted.

Firstly I'm not the boards main attitude, I'm capable of thinking for myself. Secondly I have only One role model in life, (it's not Shane MacGowan) and lastly, having empathy for someone's physical or mental appearance (self inflicted or not) shouldn't prevent their talent / ability / achievements being acknowledged.

Someone piss in yer cornflakes or wha?

I get where you're coming from, but truth be told , if we got rid of every song, poem or book that was written whilst the author was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we would have a very poor catalogue of literature and music on this planet.

Byron, Joyce, Lennon & McCartney are just three that we would be missing.

Shane MacGowan is a legend, he has written some of the greatest songs ever written and has been a massive influence to many artists, but he’s never been good in interviews. He’s always been quiet and shy, and thinks before he speaks. Before you judge him on last nights interview, Due to breaking his pelvis Shane is now in a wheel chair and heavily medicated. Add D’Arcys terrible questions to the mix, we get what we got. Shane didn’t have much to say, so he didn’t say it. But when he did speak, he was funny and quick witted.

If you wanna know what Shane really thinks... listen to his songs.

He broke his pelvis almost 3 years ago - it'd be extremely rare to be on heavily medicated and in a wheelchair for that long after a broken pelvis.

A lot of wealthy drug users swapped heroin for morphine and fentanyl a long time ago.

I find it hard to believe that in a country with a good spread of articulate, intelligent, funny people Tubridy and Darcy get to be our national (I say national in jest) television stations Primetime presenters...

Tubridy's poor enough, but D'Arcy's utterly in a league of his own when it comes to stilted, charmless and inane conversation. The man has no feel for an interview whatsoever.

He broke his pelvis almost 3 years ago - it'd be extremely rare to be in on massive painkillers and in a wheelchair for that long after a broken pelvis.
When I seen him last year he was walking...well shuffling along and wasn’t exactly steady on his feet and needed help going up and down steps .
I think the wheelchair is a more recent development.

Ray Darcy did just as good as any top interviewer would have.I rarely watch his show, but when I heard McGowan was on,I tuned in.It was sad,and reminded me of the,Parkinson and George Best interview, many moons ago on bbc.Cringe worthy.

He was in a wheelchair early 2017 at his mother's funeral (she was killed on new years day)

I seriously though he was dead. I though he died in 2016, the year of all the celeb deaths. Can't think who I've gotten him mixed up with. I thought the show advertised was some kind of retrospective. Wudda got some shock if I actually watched it.

    Kirsty McCaul, maybe?

Any interviewer who expects McGowan to be sober and intelligible is an idiot, imo. He was a great talent, but it's a miracle the man is still alive.

What's the point of wheeling somebody obviously deeply under the influence of some substance, barely capable of coherent speech, out on stage?
A Shane McGowan isn't just for Christmas.

Is this comparison a bit mean?

Yep I get the sense that she was trying to distract from the situation with attempts at stupid jokes. Surprised McGowan tolerates such an obviously fake type around him but maybe he’s vulnerable these days.

It looked to me as If Darcy didn't do any homework prior to the interview. He was filling time with stuff like how Darcy's mother and Shane had such a good time 15 years ago or asking him about his legacy/death. Wat kinda weird ass question is that. Are u fearful of death !!!

Fair enough Shane is an interviewers worst nightmare, but ffs Darcy was like a rabbit trapped in headlights.

Victoria obviously isn't a fan of Fr. Ted or she'd have known about this life hack

D'Arcy should have been canned after just one season. Fair enough give him a chance but he has proved he is unable to interview anyone with competency- asking stupid irrelevant questions, butting in, making a joke of serious topics and generally being a socially awkward pest. But hes too far up his own RTE a%% to see it.

His missus must be more like his carer at this stage, it's sad what alcohol and drugs can do to someone.

People are still very fit these days at 60 but he's like a 90 year old.

There was a story that a few years ago she was on one of his benders and Victoria decided she had had enough so she left him.
About three weeks later she became worried for how he was coping on his own. So she called the house and asked how he had been coping this last three weeks.
    "Whaaaaa"...was his response.

They're together 20+ years at this stage, maybe even 30. If she was a fake I'm sure he would have realised by now! Don't know how or why she puts up with him tbh

Just watching it on RTE player, whats the deal with the birthday wishes on the start of the show ?

    Jesus how cringey!!

    High Veronica

    Who is veronica

I think it shows Irelands unhealthy view of alcohol - he is wheeled out,
with a ****ing DRINK .. and vaping like a f*cking junkie - and the
audience clap think its great - what a LEGEND!!
People need to be ashamed of this if we wanna be serious in tackling our nations
    massive drink problem.

It was like watching an interview with an advanced stage alzheimers patient.

I thought the opposite. She seems like a very genuine, positive, compassionate and nice person. They clearly love each other. I think they have been together for nearly 30 years
