So you were giving a donation. Fair play to ya. Aren't platelet donations sometimes required for the likes of cancer patients on chemo?

Yeah mainly cancer patients, burn victims and bone marrow transplant patients. I'm lucky enough that my platelets can be used for new born babies aswell so that's my motivation right there

Fair play Reggie. They should have more places where you can donate platelets. I'm in mayo and I think i would have to travel to dublin to do it

I'd say most would do it if they were near the clinics, you never see appeals for blood or blood products like there used to be years ago, there's good support for it now.....I hope everyone carries an organ donor card.

Yeah. Really could do with one in the Midlands like portlaoise, tullamore or mullingar. Only can be done in Dublin or cork atm.

Its handy for me as I'll take off a few hours early from the bks and head in

Ah in fairness there does be a steady stream of donors there. It's the location that's the let down mainly. Also many people that get tested can't donors so there's that too

The issue was that yes they didn't or couldn't advertise for platelet donations. Plenty of blood drives around and advertised.

They now ask you at the blood drives if you would donate platelets if they think your veins are big enough. That's where I was asked. They are now doing this as the stocks are constantly getting low due to the increase of cancer patients.

They mustn't have had to pay enough compensation to smarten them up

I heard what happened. Yes someone opened the gates. It wasn't one of their family but a lad that was visiting that was worse for wear

Found this in the garden today. Anyone have any ideas? It was corked at some stage and there appears to be a logo or insignia on both sides that looks teardrop shaped.

Local dairy farm is contacted to take dried pellets from waste treatment plant. High in N and P, the grass after it bees super green. Doesn't need a shed to store, just dumped in yard.

You wouldn't think it would be allowed to be tipped in a yard without being covered . Dung isn't

If the pellets are from a waste treatment plant, I hope it has be pasteurized before being pelletised.

You wouldn't pass QA before if you accepted waste for spreading so I wonder if the regulations have changed now?

Dried pellets are treated in a thermal drier, over 90%ds, all pathogens are destroyed, resulting in a grade A biosolid. It is highly regulated, every load leaving plant gets micro tested.

It's very common to mix sewage with lime to make 'sludge', need to test for heavy metals.

For a good cause there too, foxy.

Yes, was a fairly big kerkuffle years ago when byproduct from an irish pharma, with high levels of oestregen ended up in the food chain in The Netherlands. Its an area I'd be very careful of.
