Jaysus lads - that was a shocker weather wise ?

Fair play - unlucky normally not that much rain this time of year.

It was awful. Amazingly nearly a full house turned out.

We did have one no show though, pity they never called, posted here or declined on teamer as we waited around for a while.

So 17 turned up, dubs were leading 3-1 when I left, last team wasn't sure who won! I was on my own due to no show and took on kiers and break 80. Thankfully I came through and finished 2 up to secure the point.

A pretty average 28 points probably wasn't disgraceful in that weather, I closed out my round pretty well if using with 5 pars in last 7 holes. Missed a great opportunity for a 2 in 17 though.

Thanks to everybody who came out today, good to see a few new faces. Best of luck to a post punk, not the best of starts but it can only get better from here.

    Roll on Carton

Dubs won obviously was there ever any doubt.. Toughest round of golf in my life respect for all the lads who played.. And to Roadrunner with a amazing 37 pts in that!! Corbellis is a tough track on a normal day.. But today it was different level stuff... We really are golf nuts.. :D

Roll on carton in feb hopefully the weather will be good to us let's face it, it cant be any worse..plus id say my hands will have thawed out by then.....

Thanks to everyone who turned up to the "warm up "outing yesterday which was one of the worst days of rain i have ever played in!!Benny is right we must be golf nuts to play in that yesterday:).Thanks to pearsefitz and barnaboy for filling in on the late dropouts 17 was a great turnout for the first outing.
There was only 1st and 2nd prize up for grabs yesterday as it was non counting.First and second came from the first group out, playing through the worst of the weather and were the only 2 to break 30 points which shows how tough conditions were.Fairplay Charlie coming second with 32 points and Roadrunner with a brilliant score of 37 points smashing everyone else!!! We had 2 people with twos on the day both on the 17th hole aswell, well done lads.On the seperate matchplay Dubs won 3-2 but they were on home turf..... we have to kick off down south next year to get those bragging rights back :):)..
My own opinion on Corballis is that its a golfers course, in the sense that on the tee you have to think everytime about club selection and not just default to the driver.Every part of your game is tested and you will be found out......There is some cracking holes(par 3-4th hole,99 yards to the centre landing on a saucer ) and some terribly designed holes (15 and 16 Criss-crossing) madness!!I would definitely come back again but only on a guaranteed fine day :):)
On the facilities i only found out friday that there was no place to get a bite to eat afterwards,Apoligies to anyone who travelled long distances.
Were rolling into Carton House next outing to play a fine course, look forward to seeing everyone again and we are counting from next outing as usual.

Having recovered from a good dose of flu a week ago, I decided, what better way to recover than to go out & get completely drowned in Corballis!!!

Was a real pity about the weather. The course was in great condition given the downpours. I doubt there were many other courses in the country open & playing 18 holes given the day that was in it.

Had the pleasure of Kieran. and Woodyg for company alongside Pearsefitz. I know Kieran well at this stage after a few years, but was great to meet a new member in Woodyg who will be a welcome addition to the roster. Had good craic the whole way round.

Myself & Pearsefitz did the job for the Dubs, ultimately winning 5&3. We got up early & given the tough conditions it was very difficult to pull back. A par was almost a guarantee of a win on any hole in our match.

Agree with the above sentiment around the 15-16 holes. It really is a dodgy lay out & could do with a re-route.

Grub was lovely in the hotel up the road, and a warm cup of tea after the round did the job nicely.

Thankfully the rain gear did a fairly decent job for me on the day. Woodyg was a mad-man, playing some of the holes in just a tee-shirt. His whole body was probably numb at that stage though, so he probably didn't really feel any difference :D

Looking forward to another good year with the society. Hopefully dates don't clash too often with other events & I can get in plenty of rounds.

Fair play to the lads who made the trek over from the west of the country, it was a long journey to take to then be soaked to the skin like that

Had some craic Saturday gents cheers for the welcome and battering in the match :)
Poor Kieran must have a serious bad back from carrying me around all day, think i only managed to sneak 1 hole win and a half.
I think some serious range time is needed!
Course was in great shape even in that rain.
SpaceCoyote and PearseFitz well played gents and thanks for the laughs in the cold.

    Carton should be good fun

Good fun despite the weather, though I personally don't care much for the course and the hospitality in the clubhouse is some of the worst I have experienced since moving to Ireland. Still not many courses that would have been able to stay open with that much rain.

The matchplay was really great fun, Tim golfer was unreal with his ability to pull out the points. He was draining puts from 20 yards away like he was Jordan Spieth! It was quite a good match through the turn with the Dubs rallying from 2 back to tie it up. Then my game went to utter **** on the back and 3Putt put up a good fight but in the end Tim was just unstoppable.

Looking forward to Carton, and a few trip to the range before hand..

Myself and charlie went out first as a 2ball. Standing on the first tee in the cold; with wind and rain to factor in is always difficult. I was the first of the society to tee off and was actually quite nervous about the first shot due to the conditions. I went a club lower then I'd normally go and swung easy. Connected well, greened it, pin high just a few metres left of pin. :D But then charlie stood up, swung quickly and landed a belter even closer to the pin than mine. I 3 putted, charlie 2 putted and we walked to the 2nd tee with me coming to terms with how I managed to go 1 down already.

Then I played the next 6 holes from 2 to 7 in level par making birdy on both 3 and 7 which put me ahead and I was able to keep ahead until the finish. It was nice to play well from the stretch between 2 and 7 which are some of best holes on the course. But I had some luck. Went over the green on 4 to come rolling back on. My tee shot on 5 got a lucky roll back to the fairway. 6 I was lucky to miss the bunker (though didn't manage to get up and down on that occasion) and even on 7 I pulled my tee shot and hit a provo, but found the first in great shape and made birdy from that. The final score won't reflect it (5 & 4), but all in all, charlie was unlucky to lose. I got good breaks that I was able to make use of, and his misses (a few pushed shots) were punished far more severely than mine.

I had a great time and good craic from start to finish. I don't think the rain bothered our group all that much, as we were focussed on the job at hand and just enjoying the round. Perhaps also that we were a 2ball and were able to go a pace that suited us helped.

I had the best score at the opener in wicklow last year. Looking back, I felt it set me up nicely for the rest of 2017. Now same here in Jan 2018. I also have a few new sticks in the bag. And I'm feeling good about the year ahead. I'll try make some of the other boards outings this year - but it going to be difficult to make enough to qualify for the jug. Pity this wasn't a 'counting' event

Quick edit just to mention the course. I love it. Greens were in great condition. The rain drenched the 8th green completely and it had standing water across most of it. But that can be excused with the day that was in it. Every hole there is unique, and you got to pick your shots. The more you get to know it there, the better you enjoy the track.
    Up the dubs!
