ordered our 1.6 diesel today. Car has plenty of room for the family.
I am 6foot and no issue in the rear.

I did find the front seats somewhat uncomfortable, found that the protruded my shoulders forward, anyone find the same with the front seats?
I am hoping I will adjust....

Apologies about only getting these up now, the last 2 weeks have been mental.

Picked it up 2nd of Jan at 3pm Never looked back since, love everything about the car and I've not even setup android play yet.

picked mine up this morning 1.2 Active and its fab. now i hadn't test driven it before but i had the older model so had an idea what it was like. it's so much nicer, really powerful for a 1.2 and so far so good. the touch screen is great as is the rear view camera and i also like the way the wing mirrors fold in after locking the car. so all in all, i'm very happy :)

We have 1000km on our now (1.6d) averaging 6.6l/100km

Stupid question and I haven't had a proper look at the manual but does anyone know what the slot down on the right hand side just above where your knee would be, I think it's for a sim card but can't be sure.

The wide flat one you mean? I think that's just a card holder.

My car is delayed.. I won't have it probably before mid feb.. I ordered in August :(

My brother-in-law went for a test drive of a 1.2 5008 Allure and a 1.6HDi EAT6 C4GP Feel Exclusive last weekend. He really, really liked the 5008 even before he went to test drive it, but liked the interior(especially the extra visibility) and practicality of the C4GP more.

Even with scrappage he was looking at north of €30,000 for either and is going for a one year old C4GP in the UK instead.

To the guys who have the car, any updates? How do you like it so far? Any issues at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 426 ✭✭Amberjack

TBH I've been out of action, picked up the car on Thursday, collected the kids from school in it and then since Friday I've been wiped with that godforsaken cold/flu, so all I can do is look at the car, lol.

I’ve been driving the 1.2 PureTech Active for a couple of weeks now. If anyone’s wondering, it’s a near perfect family car for the money. I was totally sold on the flexible seating / boot setup, and the front cabin, which can easily be mistaken for a car 10-20k more up-market. All wrapped up in a nice crossover look with plenty of kit.

I really look forward to getting into the car. I find the drive to be much more comfortable than expected – its as close to driving around in an armchair I've come to. The brakes, clutch and steering are spot on. The gear box is good - it can occasionally feel vaguely clicky, but it's fine. The suspension and ride are very nicely balanced. I like the steering wheel and instrument panel position; unusual but none of it feels unnatural. The engine is a real surprise – I’d heard it was good, but just wow! Access to power, responsive and enjoyable. Being familiar with low displacement petrol engines I thought I’d have to shift more to get access to torque, but expectations are exceeded. I’ve read mixed reviews in relation to this, I can’t really see where critics are coming from - unless the GT trims add a lot of extra weight to the chassis, or some folks have just got used to driving modern powerful automatic diesel cars? Me personally, if I hadn’t been given the specs I’d swear on my life I was in a 1.8. People say displacement doesn’t mean anything anymore? I believe it.

We’re happy with the Active trim– spec is bang on for the price. I thought I might really miss the chrome trim on the Allure upwards, but we find that black trim around the edges wears the muddy Irish road dirt better, and in a dark colour the car looks reasonably gentile and masculine without too much juvenility. The only thing I’d miss are the front parking sensors - we optioned them from the factory and I personally think they’re needed, especially if the driver is unused to SUVs or crossovers. The height of the car and the length of the wheel base mean that anything but reverse parking is a little unwieldy – but additional sensors offer a lot more security with parking manoeuvres.

I’ve found no issues, just a couple of very small nit-picks… the trim gets more plastic further back into the interior and the handles for folding the second row seats feel like they could be flimsy. In order to allow the second row seats to fold flat, a 3 inch gap is left between the rear of the seats and the boot floor – perfect for loose stuff fall in under the seats! When driving in traffic the auto wiper control waits for the windscreen to get crazy wet. When you pick up speed it gets its act together. I wish the handbrake engaged slightly faster. A physical temperature control would be more ergonomic. The speed limiter requires the driver to keep pressing the mem command to accept the latest speed sign recognised – that level of concentration could be used to just pay attention to the speed limit!
    Small potatoes, all of that.

Heads up - Android Auto/Mirror-link needs a very high quality USB cable or it will occasionally drop the connection. This could depend on your phone. The bar/wrench that releases the space saver comes in two parts – we discovered one was missing and had to return to the dealer to get it. Check your tools when you collect! They should be found behind the two pop-up seats under the concertina floor.

I’d rate this car at 9/10 if it stays reliable. Near perfect for families with three children, I’d even urge families with two children to have a look, especially if they still use a buggy or travel across the country. The space is just so incredibly convenient, and you really don’t lose much in drive comfort or looks. There’s also the 3008 to consider – that would be on my list even if I didn’t have children. The competition is heavier in the five seater crossover space, but at seven seats the 5008 only really appears to be rivalled by the xtrail and the Kodiaq, and both of those employ a bench layout over the second row.

In summary, a good looking car with a practical family interior, a fabulous driver cabin, and it's nice to drive to boot. What's not to like?

    ^Great review, thanks.

Would I be mad to consider this for a family of 6? Changed from a Sportage to a Smax due to increased numbers! As good as the Smax is I'd prefer the SUV. Not much of a boot in the Smax anyway.
    Any opinions? Thanks.

I think it would be frustrating for 6, you lose too much boot. You might get away with it with a small buggy or none at all, but it would wreck my head. You're in mini van territory!

May it wear well! For the above issue there is a cheap solution: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/AX-2Pcs-For-Peugeot-3008-5008-II-2017-2018-Under-Seat-Floor-Rear-AC-Heater-Air/32832606109.html (if that's the one you mean?)

Damn, that's a separate issue! Didn't know about that, nice find. Those ducts must be under the first row seats.

Am I missing something or is there a third place to put the boot cover that us completely out of the way or do I have to remove it. That's my only gripe so far (2000km, 6.7l/100km)

There isn't unfortunately, I ve seen it in a few reviews mentioning the same. If you want to hide it you have to store it outside the car.

Hi guys, do you mind posting the firmware version of your car? I am hoping to get the car next week and I want to see with what firmware will arrive.

I 've seen this page here http://www.peugeot.ie/service-and-accessories/online-services/map-system-updates.html
where you can enter your VIN and will guide you to download the latest firmware. Has anyone tried it?

Great stuff, congrats, best of luck with it. I got mine a couple of weeks ago too. A great car, although my wife is the main driver. I'll post a review of sorts later..

Haven't tried it yet. Hows that 1.6 petrol?

    Ok a few first impressions:

    - Look of the car, I was just wow when I saw it, the combination of the white pearl and the black roof with the chrome trimming is just awesome in my eyes, obviously taste is a very personal matter. I 've also ordered grip control, so when I had originally seen the specific rims on the 3008 I wasn't particularly fond of them; luckily it works great with the 5008.

    - Inside, holy **** it's like you are getting into an one class better car (price wise). The seats are so comfy and hug your body in the right way. The ambient lighting is awesome and I just love that all the panels are driver oriented. The lcd screen menus were a joy to work when you get used to them (I spent an hour in the car last night fiddling with all the settings, and i have 0 complains). Android auto works perfectly with google maps/waze/spotify, voice recognition also with 0 issues. Volume on the calls are perfect and the other party was able to hear me with no issues as well. The automatic boot door is great, you press the button from afar and it's already open when you are close to the car. As you are leaving you swipe your foot under it and it's closed by the time you enter the car.

    - Driving. What an absolute joy. I went with the automatic 1.6 petrol. Gears are changing silently when you are in city traffic, but when you put your foot down you can feel how the response of the car changing immediately, it keeps the gears longer and the revs higher to accelerate and boy it can accelerate. Pressing the sport button enhances that a bit and also makes vroom vroom noises from the speakers (it's kinda funny), but it can really go fast. However, when you do put your foot down, be ready to refill a lot, the consumption is big. It can be a fast car if you need it to be.

The adaptive cruise control is equally freaky and awesome, I drove from redcow to naas yesterday without needing to touch neither the gas or the brake. I set the distance to "distant", as I wasn't really comfortable for anything more just yet lol and off it went, it went as low as 25kms/h and as fast as 105km/s (what I had set as limit) without me needing to do nothing. I also tried the automatic parking, but this was super freaky, I think it's more of a gimmick than an actual need. The back and front cameras do not have great quality, but they are more than enough for what they are going to be used. The extra sensors are equally helpful for when you are parking close. The 360 view is just awesome, and the automatic zoom when you are getting close to something helps a lot, the car is big after all.

It's my first car with pure LED lights and they are absolutely gorgeous, that true white and how clear they are is so nice.

What I don't like? The automatic wipers, they seem to be going at random speeds without an explanation and I haven't found a setting yet. The only thing I am afraid, is how the whole consumption thing is going to play, I know I won't be able to get a clear picture until I have a couple of thousand KMs on it.

Ok it's still very early days, but the car has exceeded my expectations so far, it's equally impressive, user friendly and an awesome people's carrier. I am overjoyed to be able to drive this car. I really hope I will be able to still say the same few years down the line.

Oh one more thing, I remember from the reviews that were some slots on the bottom right side of the wheel that you could put cards etc, but I couldn't find that in my car. Does anyone else have it?

Nice review and I assume from your comments that you didn’t manage to test drive this particular model/engine? I too have opted for the 1.6 petrol as I preferred the responsiveness compared to the 1.2 auto (after testing). Economy will be worse but I am prepared to sacrifice that as a fairly low annual mileage driver. Have fun. Collecting mine in 3 weeks.

please let us know how you find the 1.6.
I'm looking at switching to a 7 seater and have narrowed the list to 5008. s-max or galaxy.

Smax is fine space wise but it didn’t float my boat as just seems a bit tired. I was looking at a long term hold and it didn’t excite me. Also wanted petrol and I tried but wasn’t that keen on the 2.0 eco boost. Tried the Galaxy but it felt too big and heavy. All subjective of course. They are all good cars for their own reasons. The 5008 to me is refreshing and I tried all 3 petrol options and settled on the 1.6. Will see if it lives up to it..

I had driven the 1.6 on a 3008. While similar, not exactly the same thing and you can't really feel how the engine respond in every scenario with a 10min drive. So far I am really excited with the engine, it has a good kick when you need it.

Now, on what I was saying earlier, this is what's in the manual:

    and this what I have:

Neither 3 or 4 is there; it's not a big deal, I am just curious.
