Here's an email I sent coinbase a few weeks.

    Can anyone shed some light?

    (Hi,

I had a friend transfer €50 to my coinbase BTC wallet, minus his fees this came to 0.00333416 BTC or €46.72.

When it was received in my wallet it was only 0.00115 BTC or €15.59.

I failed to see how over €31 can be taken in a transaction fee for receiving BTC.)

Their reply is long and doesn't really answer it as we didn't use email addresses just coinbase addresses

(Hello and thanks for contacting us.

Here is some information on Coinbase fees:

We do not charge a fee to receive and store digital currency, or accept merchant payments.

Any transactions sent between Coinbase customers by email address take place off-chain (not on the blockchain) at no cost. Coinbase does not pay the network mining fee on behalf of customers for outgoing digital currency transactions.

When buying or selling digital currency on Coinbase with a bank account or fiat wallet, the conversion fee will be displayed prior to confirming your order and will vary based on your location, payment method, and other criteria.

For more information about fees, please refer to this page: https://support.coinbase.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2109597

If this did not resolve your issue, please respond to this email and one of our agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Thank you for using Coinbase!)

I went back a week ago with this and have had no reply since., has anyone experiencedthis?

    (Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

It still doesn't explain why after he paid his fees,0.00218416 BTC (€31.13) didnt come through with the payment?

I was with him when he made the transaction so what could have happened?

I'm quite confused by it because all other transactions have come through at the correct amount, are you able to clarify for me please?

    Thanks again)

TX fees peaked around 35 USD, so depending on when you sent it 50 becoming 15 is NORMAL.

Thats one of the big flaws with BTC at the minute. Some say its abuse, some say its popularity, either way each block is bidding war to get in so where fees used to be 50c they're now 30 quid.

This was on the 6th of jan and it was from one coinbase wallet to another.

The coin was btc and after the initial transaction fees €46 should have reached my wallet.

Transferring 46 euro and having 15 show up doesn't sit right

Stick your receiving address into here https://blockchain.info/

The click on the transaction link.
It will tell you the amount input, output and the fees.

I think he's describing a CB to CB tx which happens off chain (its just a row entry in CBs database).

In that case not much we can say, it's CB error, somewhere.

Not sure what they're like for customer service generally and if your experience is typical.
