What we need to do is create some kind of a commune some where ( like Jonestown?)and all the snowflakes that find living with all the rest of us so AWFUL can go and live there in politically correct heaven.

Neither All In The Family, Till Death Do Us Part, Love Thy Neighbour, Fawlty Towers etc etc were racist. They just all merely had racist characters and without fail the joke was on THEM. People laughed AT the Major in FT. People laughed AT Alf Garnett etc. They never laughed with them. These were all portrayed as bigots which warranted being laughed at. Same with Mr Roper's sexism/homophobia in Three's Company. He's not shown in a good light for it and is instead rightfully subjected to ridicule and made funny of in almost all shows.

When people label such shows as racist and homophobic it just really shows that they missed the point.

Alf Garnett’s ( racist misogynistic homophobic royalist pompous bigoted jingoistic) pathological hatred of his left wing liberal socialist Labour voting insufferably lazy scouse git son in law (played by Tony Blair’s real life FIL) was years ahead of his time.

The episode where Bud is being abused by a teacher and Al is gatecrashing children's birthday parties is a all time classic of the sit come genre.
The more you think about it, is humour gradually being wiped out ?

Actually, if you watch MWC you will notice Al complaining about political correctness a lot.
He truly was a visionary. :D

If you watched Friends when it first came out then you aren’t a millennial. It’s science.
Millenial are the generation after X. Birtdates from 1982 to late 90s.

Gen Z are the new geneation of kids born in the 00s.

No it wasn't. There may have been some jokes we wouldn't consider as acceptable today but friends is exactly how general society's attitude was to ethnic minorities/women/lgbt in the 90's, which wasn't that bad at all but just less politically correct than todays.

Youd swear the ones complaining, never made/laughed at a crude/non pc joke or used slang/bad terms at all

I don't know about racist or sexist but it was crap. Horrible acting, bad one dimensional characters who were deeply unlikeable and a **** soundtrack.

At the grand old age of 48, I'm proud to admit I've never watched Top Gun, dirty Dancing or endured a single episode of friends.

brain dead idiots that dont realise society changes with time, its incredibly depressing having what a muppet says online gets classed as news. Friends is one if the best tv shows ever but I'm baffled how it's on Netflix, like the simpsons it's literally never off the tv so I don't know how there's people out there that enjoy good comedy and haven't seen every episode already

How can you make such a judgement if you haven't even watched 1 episode? The reason each episode has been on tv a million times is because there such a likable group and the comedy writing was super sharp, superb comedy like friends, father ted and only fools and horses are sadly a thing of the past

Typical of the overly PC bull**** that goes on in modern society. Why can't people just live their lives as they see fit and stop being offended by every little f**king thing?

It's mind numbingly stupid and really boring at this stage.

There have always been people whining about nothing but years ago they would have to go to the trouble of phoning up a television station or writing someone a letter which took a little bit of effort. Now any idiot can just log into Twitter and tweet their opinion at the makers of a television program. This has more to do with modern technology and how it's easier than ever to get your opinion listened to than it has to do with any age group.

Unfortunately television stations do pay attention to this. Instead of letting writers write the story they want to they now have to pander to these people. You can't have too many white people and there has to be 'diversity'.

If Friends were made today at least one of the characters would most likely have to be black.

Well when female celebrities are mercilessly ridiculed for ageing naturally then I can see why so many resort to unnatural prevention methods

I think the Cosby show was very racist, not a single white person in the lead cast!!!!!

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Its not the people of social media being offended by everything that's the problem. It's the media. They have given importance to any gob****e. In this case it's independent.co.uk but far far too may of them are at it. If 5 people out of a thousand say something is offensive, it's a story. It's like, seen several articles over the last 3 days saying Liam Neeson is under fire for Late Late Show speech about the Hollywood 'Me too' campaign being a witch hunt....but who is he under fire from? Nobody seems to have anything to say about it other than journalists themselves. It's the media creating a story that doesn't exist - and pushing it until it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy! Same with the increasingly boring hysteria every time Trump utters a word or a tweet. It's the media...and my God they are boring!

To put friends in the same category as Father Ted Or only fools is sacrilege.

Just not in the same league.

When Friends started on Tv in the 1990s, I have to admit Im one of the few people who never watched a single episode of the show while it would of been at its peak; that said given the fuss & that some people are playing the race card about the show, Im gonna watch a few episodes from the first season of Friends of Netflix to see WTF the fuss some are making is all about .

This is exactly what's happening I think. There are numerous articles around from all different sources claiming "People are outraged by this", or "The celeb faces massive backlash for saying that thing" but when you click into the article, there's one or two Twitter messages that the journalists probably spent a month trying to find.

EDIT: Just after scrolling through my Facebook feed and Unilad have an article about how Primark (that's Penneys to you and I) are facing backlash with their children's outfits, and that people are saying it's sexualising babies. Click into the article and lo and behold, it's one person. They wrote an entire article on one unknown person's opinion and tried to pass it off as the general consensus...

Nope, friends is a boring boring cliche with **** one dimensional unlikeable characters trying too hard whereas the other two are timeless.

big difference in budget, delivery, talent and comedy.

are you really qualified to make such claims given that you proclaim to have never watched it. friends is a classic.
personally I don't rate father ted and only fools and horses as in the top category like porridge , at your service etc. too predictable
the fact that friends has lasted this long on tv and has a serious following among people who wernt even born when it was on.shows how good it is

I tried to watch it but could not endure one full episode.

Did not connect with it at all. It has zero personality.

    That’s enough for me.

father Ted is a classic, so is only fools, but friends is embarrassingly bad.

Each to their own but I’m not sure how many people rate it now, many of my friends who watched it back in the day would sleep through it now.

It has not stood the test of time.

would I record it to watch later no
would I buy the box set . probably not
would I make a mental note to tune in at 7 to watch it . no
but if there wasn't a program I really wanted to watch on or I had 30min free I would put it on . mostly because I can pop in and out of it and keep up , and I'm guaranteed a good show.

I read a review of the episode where Chandler finds out that many people assume he is gay. The review site is one I really like but the writer in question seems to be quite sensitive to perceived homophobia. He said that Chandler's aversion to being thought of as gay amounted to "gay panic". To me, I read it that Chandler - as a straight male - was worried that the apparently common assumption he was gay was ruining his chances with women he meets and likes. A totally reasonable stance to me.

He also seemed to think that making Susan a bit of a wagon was casting a gay character as a villain. Whereas I think it was a ballsy move on the part of the show to make her pretty unlikable.
