Incase there is any confusion on this:

Noone who says that they are "chill" is 'chill'.
Noone who says that they are"super confident" is even remotely confident.

That poor guy was using arrogance(and acting like a tw*t) to mask his very obvious insecurities.

Episode overall was terrible and it felt like a real shark jumping moment as they seemed to just pick the dates with the 'outrageous characters on it' as opposed to picking likeable people who are there to find someone.

People dont watch so that some imbecile(s) can try desperately to grasp for their 5 mins of fame.

Yep, good summary. Though with solid ideas like that you'll never make a TV producer/editor.

Blind Date was so much better than this tripe last night, hope TV3 show the unaired episodes.

Maybe Ridley Scott could direct too?

P.J Gallager would be brilliant at it.

What’s the story with the nosering girl’s accent. Is that how Dublin teenagers speak?
I thought she said she was from Ballymun?! I worked with a lovely girl from Ballymun a few years ago - she didn't speak like that!

Definitely a bit Jedward-esque with that lad.
He really seemed like Jedward's younger brother - both in terms of looks and personality.

I thought that was a really poor start to the year for the Irish First Dates. It probably didn't help that the UK First Dates Hotel started the night before on C4 and that was quite good.
The two gay girls seemed to get along well, I understand that they are probably at different stages in their lives - so why did the producers pair them up then?
The two gay guys were very immature and got ruder as the date went on. They must have very little experience in dating, when they realised that the date wasn't working out they were taking turns to go to the loo to bitch about the other, instead of making polite conversation like an adult.
The girl who had the lovely black dress on, I don't understand what her issue was with the guy agreeing to go halves when she suggested it in the first place, and she harped on to the camera after about how the guy should pay! It was one of those moments where I thought : that, my dear, is why you are still single!
Meh, I can take it or leave it next week, and normally I'm looking forward to the next episode.

THAT dress was horrendous and she was a pain to listen to.

Amy had 2 personalities last night. The lovely pleasant girl when her date mentioned holiday/boat, and then the sulky teen when bill was split (on her say so).

As for Leigh?. I swear to God but if someone shook their hair like that where there is food I would have swung for him.
Totally immature and silly, mind you his date didnt come across too well either

Couldn't even finish it last night, just couldn't care less about any of the couples. Only seemingly interesting guy was stood up

Interesting because he wore a white suit and drank whiskey?

He didn't even say he was super confident, he said he thinks he is. You can't be that fúcking confident if you only think you are.

Those two lads were so ridiculous. Talk about being passive aggressive.

I think I found myself forgetting how young they both were.
Id say in a few years time they will be seriously embarrassed about how they both behaved.

The young ones last night were nothing but arrogant, self entitled, narcissistic, rude, bare ankled douche nozzles.

Why would a teenager need a blind dinner date anyway?

Surely theres some funny moments from some of the other tables that they could throw in. I assume they have cameras on all tables

Pretty poor episode, hopefully the series will improve from here.

That was a bit odd.....I dont think I will ever meet anyone wah wah wah.....and he is 18?!?!? come on!

I think they like to focus on the people they consider to be "characters"...also I think people apply to be background daters maybe? so not featured.

I only got watching this after a friend of mine was a contestant last year; the Irish show seems to skew towards younger dates, in contrast with the few moments of the UK version I saw, where that seemed more geared towards older couples. If so, it's obviously a deliberate choice by RTÉ2 but IMO really hurts the shows credibility and the enjoyment to be taken out of something that should be kinda sweet and optimistic to watch.

No disrespect intended to any young posters here, but it's hard to take anyone 18-21 seriously when they voice strong opinions on life, career and romance; it sounds like a real 'old geezer' thing to say but these kids - and they are kids ultimately - have no experience to draw on, and that just makes them look twice as daft on National TV when they start waffling on.

We all made mistakes when we were young, but at least any foolish notions or actions weren't broadcast for the 'world' to see and take schadenfreude from.

I don't think there is cameras on all the tables.

I think you apply to be on a featured date or on a background date.

    brilliant post well said.

The American accents and jedward type demeanor will tell you everything you need to know. It's one thing to want your 15 minutes of fame but how bad must the parents feel when they're on national TV coming across as absolute mutants!! "my friend is sooo clever, she reads actual books'n stuff" not clever enough to have respect and stay seated for a date on national telly, feckin brat!! it's called manners, again, id hate to be the parent going to work the next day!! they're like 6 year olds invited to a birthday party.

" I have my ewn polidical pardy"!!!! also they think nothing of going on TV and vomiting all their personal tragedies into the lens for all to hear... is it first dates or find me a family?? what a joke, is it any wonder they're offing themselves in record numbers....my town doesn't cater for my identity...I'll be lone for the rest of my life at this stage...AGE Fookin 18!!!!

The difference between this weeks' and an average UK episode was stark to say the least. Pixelburp is spot on. The more interesting dates are always the older ones. But even RTE seemed to muck that up with Enda and Sinn Fein lass. They must have got absolutely no applications to be daters this season.

    This is... extremely distasteful.

The reaction to the first episode seemed a little bit OTT to me. I, like most, would like to see a more broad range of dates, but tbh I think RTE are just working with what they have. I remember seeing an ad looking for participants and they were crying out for men to take part, meaning not many were applying. If there's not that many applying then they don't have a very broad selection to choose from. Either way though the first episode did get off to an unnecessarily negative start, they could have put one decent date in there, but I'm sure there's lots more to come.
