1.2 L vs 1.4 L petrol vs 1.6 L diesel golf

    Hi,
    I am trying to buy my second car, looking to buy a golf and from what I can afford it'll be roughly a 2010 diesel 1.6 golf or maybe a 1.2L or 1.4 l petrol golf 2011 roughly.
    Realistically I'm looking for a car with low enough km cos the car I actually will be selling has low km.

    Anyways I don't know a whole lot about cars but the basic driving I do is on country roads of about 60 km a day to and from work (80 km p/h max)
    Once a month or so I would be driving on motorways. And then maybe 20 km a day if I go to town on a 100 km road.

    Things I'm wondering are which would be cheapest to run in terms of fuel cost and which would actually be a smoother/nicer drive?

    The vast majority of VW Golf's are diesel versions (1.6 TDI). They are very good cars - reliable, economical, well built and good to drive. They sell in large numbers and hold their value.

    Diesel would be a waste of time, for the distance you are travelling your best option is full Electric but if you don’t want to go that far then petrol....will be better drive as well.....

    What sort of budget?

    Are you sure Golf is only option?

    Most 8 year old diesel cars are going to have at least 100k miles on them at this stage as most people buy diesel cars to drive them per their intended purpose. You will always have exceptions but I'd want hard evidence in the form of proper service history, etc not just stamps, to prove it. I'd also be wary of the potential problems low mileage diesel can come with too.
