Vrt export rebate

    Hi has anyone got a vrt refund from exporting a car back up north which they previously vrt'd in South. Is it a difficult process ?

    No, it's not difficult.
    You need to book appointment to NCT centre for an export examination. Show up the with a car, and pay €38.
    Then you have 30 days to remove vehicle from the State.
    After it's registered abroad, you need to fill a form
    attach proof of registration abroad (f.e. registration cert) and send it to revenue.
    Within couple months, you'll get refund to your account.

    No.
    You only need to remove the car from the State within 30 days.
    There doesn't seem to be any time limit for registering car abroad.

    However you'll need to send a proof of registration abroad (f.e. copy of registration cert) so you won't be able to apply for refund before car is registered, and you'd need to work together with new owner, as he would need to make a copy of his new registration cert available to you. (so if you're selling to stranger it might not be as easy).
