    What model/price?

Should have said, this is the laptop I'm contemplating purchasing.

    https://www.adverts.ie/laptops/full-hd-1920-x-1080-hp-elitebook-8570p-15-6-widescreen-intel-i5-processor-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-mint-condition-6-month-warranty-great-battery/14506365

Agreed deal for €400 quid with 12 month warranty so think I'm going to dive for it (hadn't put it in here has had created a thread in main forum!).

    Cheers

Pretty OK if it comes with a 12 month warranty, speed wise it would be pretty similar to modern i3 or i5 'U' model processors and that 256GB SSD will make a major difference.

For similar money you'd get a modern i3 (same speed), 128GB SSD and full HD brand new but the overall quality of the laptop would be somewhat lesser, and the HP seems a) in good nick and b) has a 14" screen too which is a good size.

Think it is actually a 15"6 screen - not major difference for me, will use more battery power i guess but easier to use!

    Yeah that's a good deal.

For slighty more you could get a Thinkpad W530:

More expensive but with a full-power 4-core/8-thread CPU

Interesting. Not sure what to make of that is it just scare tactics for AMD or real?

I wrote about AMD chips getting hampered in the other thread even though they are not at risk. Trust me if it was the other way round Intel chips would not take a hit if AMD chips were vulnerable.

I read that already but I would like confirmation from someone other than Intel.

    Upgrade bug is biting.

Thinking of a new case - Thermaltake View 27
    main.jpg
    Only issues:
    • I don't need it
    • It's plexi-glass (not tempered glass) so not scratch-proof
    • My AIO hasn't shipped yet

    Thoughts?

I like to look of it but I'd be concerned about intake air flow with the way the front is set up.

    S'not inverted. S'not worth having.

Looks like there's next to no room between the case and GPU fans. Nah, pass!

Is it just me or does anyone else cringe when it comes RGB lighting, windowed side panels and vertical mounted GPUs?
I'm happy with a black box style case under my desk that contains the performance I need.

Maybe I'm just getting old now...

I wouldn't be side-mounting it anyway, my GPU is 2.5 slots wide :pac:

    RGB lights are meh.
Windows are useful for seeing if the fans are on!:pac:

I have 2x 120mm grey Noctuas I'd throw in anyway.

Just had this conversation yesterday. I'd be fairly into my PC looking the part - perfect cabling, some lighting, custom logos, glass window, etc.

I'd say cringe is a bit too strong of a word. No different to someone who takes pride in the appearance of their car versus someone who couldn't care less as long as it goes from A to B really!

The only type of case I hate is the cheap, tacky and ugly low-end cases that push the bling factor to the max. Like this below...I'd rather a nice plain black case than that.

I have two RGB strips in my case though i have a Meshify C and the glass is very dark on it so looks subtle enough. Think it looks good meself.

If you're getting old, so am I. Not being able to turn off my graphic card's led permanently is an annoyance to me.

    Hmm.
Only other case that catches my eye is the Cooler Master Mastercase Pro 3.

It's bloody massive though; mATX @ 55L volume!

The new Phanteks P300 looks great. Very nice understated design and a good price too.

Too small for my PSU; I'd need a P400 or Enthoo Evolv.

I've an Evolv ATX I'll sell ye. :v

That's very generous, but I've ended up finding a (more expensive) side-project to do instead :o:pac:

Will post it in Arcade & Retro when it's finished :pac:

Upgrade bug hit me in that I went from a Logitech G900 mouse to a G903 with the wireless charging mouse mat and got the G933 headset also :)
Really liking the idea of never having to plug my mouse in again. It seems to work really well, it always keeps the battery in and around 90% for the best life of the battery :)
Got a few other bits over Christmas but this is the one I'm enjoying the most :)

MX518 still going strong 12 years later. I'll be sad the day it goes but damm Logitech have me as a lifelong customer. I've had and have a bunch of other gear from them as a result, like a G710+ keyboard.

I liked the G900 so much I bought a spare, then bought the G903/mouse-charge pad/G933 headset and can see myself getting more from them.
    :)

Logitech dominates my peripherals now too, just cant fault the built quality, functionality or the after care if something does go wrong.

Next up will be a wireless headset for me sometime this year, siberia v2's are looking a bit sorry at this stage and im sick of the wires.

I feel sorry for someone buying a OEM i7 8700 with lets say a GTX 1070. You will be totally conned.

I'm kinda lost, what do you mean by this?

Also what's the story with the cartoon above - is there something with the FM2 CPU's affected? Just when they have the A6 specifically....
