Laptop (HP Compaq 15) Won't Turn On - Any Help?

My HP Compaq 15 won't turn on. It's been giving problems (freezing and I've had to manually power off and back on and it has just been switching off by itself at times) for a while. I've looked at the usual suspects, battery, ac adapter etc. I've taken it apart too to see if there was anything obvious. Can't see the culprit. The power on light turns red for a few seconds then turns off and nothing else happens. Is there anything I can do or should I just bin it?

Time to do some "fun" hardware troubleshooting.

Check the RAM. If there are two sticks, remove one. See if it boots. Check the other. Rinse. Repeat.

You can also reseat the CMOS battery to see if that's causing the problem too.

You'll need a jewellers screwdriver or just a very small one to unscrew the bottom.

Thanks, I did that but no change. The ram looked OK to me but I wouldn't be an expert of any description.

Were there two sticks and could you alternate between slots when testing?

Are there any beeps when you push the power button?

If there are, you can diagnose it with the chart on this page: https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

No, just the one slot and the one stick. There's no beep. It's silent, just the power light comes on red for a few seconds, nothing happens and it switches off.
