Talking to a car sales person

    Hi all,
I'm not good at all with the haggling required to get the best deal at the dealership.

I currently own a 142 Seat Leon SE (Diesel). 33,00 km. Its got an alarm, but otherwise it's standard. Purchased from Cranleys as a nearly new in mid 2015.

I'm thinking of upgrading. I've found a suitable one here (https://m.carzone.ie/used-cars/SEAT/Leon-FR-1.4TSI-125BHP-5DR/2570083467118960270).

My requirements is basically FULL LINK which my current car doesn't have. I would like to have reversal camera but not essential - above car doesn't have camera.

The dealer is saying my diesel is only worth 9,000 as a trade in, or 10,500 if I go for a new car. I'm not really clear why there's a price difference but there is.

The car I want is at 22,950, less 9k trade in for my car so the cost to me would be €13,950. So that's my starting point.... right?

Is it unrealistic to expect to get movement on the above? Ideally I'd like to only part with circa 10k cash, but maybe that's a step to far.

We spoke about pcp and 0 % finance etc but all that just scares me, if I want it I'll buy it outright.

Should I be happy if I paid the 13,950 but got the reversal camera fitted? How much does that cost I wonder....?

The cheapest Leon on donedeal is €13k and allowing haggling room your looking at €12500 so knock another €1000 off yours to get the trade value so €11-11500 is your starting point. The car you want is €23k so €12k to change. I don’t think there’ll be much room for movement in that price and you are not going to be able to change up that car for €10k, that’s totally unrealistic.

If you really want that car, approach the dealer tell him you have €12k to change and if he can’t do a deal at that you’ll just have to look elsewhere.
