Radiator - Replacing Manual Valve with Thermostatic Valve

    Hi all,

    Regarding the above is this a big job to do yourself or is a plumber recommended? Essentially looking to install smart thermostatic valves on my radiators that have currently manual ones. Googling is giving me various answers.

    It is something you could do yourself, but as you need to ask... probably not advisable. You will need to either drain down the system or use a freeze kit on the pipe, remove the old valve and install the new one.

    If you already know how to drain down the system, you probably have enough cop on to change the valve over. If you don't know how to drain down the system, hire a plumber

    Which smart valve system are you looking to install?

    Depending on the system, it's often cheaper to get it professionally installed with grants and refunds from Electric Ireland.

    It will be netatmo, I have the smart thermostat and love it but would be great to control temp in certain rooms too (especially with kids).

    That make sense so, we have thermostatic valves on some rad running off a solid fuel system and to be honest, ordinary valves would be just as good. In the sense that you get of the system what you put in in terms of sticks and coal etc.
