Ingruber might do a decent impression. But he has to be able to carry an film in a lead role and that's a different kettle of fish entirely. A flashback might be ok for him to handle, but a two hour film with him on screen for possibly 80% of it?

See the way I look at it is, I don't think most would have known Mark Hamill when Star Wars originally came out and that turned out alright. And Harrison Ford was mostly known only at the time for American Graffiti. Everything I've seen of Ingruber, seems like he would have the charisma and the ability for the movie. I don't think he would have to do it as an impression of Han, I think he looks enough like him that you could suspend belief and actually think it was Han. Though I kinda feel like a lot of the actors are too recognisable and could take you out of it.

But Disney are already creating their own prequels Dave, in the form of these "...a Star Wars Story" films.

Also, it would make no sense to actually remake the prequels. That would just mess things up more than they already are. In time, though, I think everyone will just sort of take them as an embarrassing slip and won't mention them. Those that haven't already.

It will always be a shame, they could have been excellent.

As for being "stuck" with them, we kind of not. They're incredibly easy to bypass...so far. Your JJ quite has me worried. :(

Hey you've liked the new prequels so far. This one might shock all of us and be good :)

I think there's scope to remake the prequels, but maybe take one part of it and make it one movie. Like, the actual transition from good to evil. We don't need a whole movie of Anakin as a kid, just a prologue. Second act could be him becoming a Jedi, but with questionable morality from the outset. We don't need to think of him as being completely good and then completely evil.

To make it grittier, he could be a disturbed child. At the weekend I watched one of the Harry Potter movies, it was the one with "Tom Riddle" as a kid. It struck me that that kind of portrayal would've been great for Anakin. And perhaps as a teenager / young pilot he becomes a bit more settled / friends with Obi-Wan (and yes, you'd have to cast for that role *again*). But with something not sitting right that draws him to the dark side and the Emperor (again, a recasting job).

I don't buy that he needs to have had an epic saber duel after turning evil to end up in the suit. Maybe he ended up in the suit while he was still "good", but his mind became warped as a result of being essentially so mutilated and disabled, which the Emperor takes advantage of.

Something like that could be covered in a 2.5 hour movie.

Sure. But 'Rogue One' was a story, first and foremost. That was its genesis and it was how it played out, to the detriment of the characters for some people (although I thought they we fine).

However, this is a character concept first and foremost. This is a Han Solo "origin" film, that merely has revenue at the top of its concerns.

The story of 'Rogue One' added to the original 'Star Wars' in a very real way. But, I doubt that 'Solo' will add anything much, except a lot of fan service and winks about stuff that few people will actually want.

Just had a thought... One way to make this film stand out and really surprise people would be to have the opening scene as Han and Luke reminiscing. It could be set before Kylo turns to the darkside and give audiences that scene of Han and Luke together, which we now won't have in Episodes VIII and IX. It wouldn't have to be a long scene, but maybe Luke asking Han about that time he did the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, etc., and then there is a flashback where the actual film begins with a younger Han.

I dunno man... sounds a bit cheesy.
LUKE: So Han, did you really do the Kessel run like you said?

HAN puts his feet on the table and takes a drink.

HAN: Well kid, let me tell you all about it...

    fades to...

I see your argument and raise you with one 'Disney World' :pac:

Ron Howard seems pretty good on sentiment and taste, maybe he would find a decent way to do it. The whole film is pure fan service in the pursuit of money. One sure way of reinforcing that and getting the more skeptical fans on board would be to hint at a scene involving Luke and Han.

Would that not be even more fan service?

For this movie to work, Han Solo needs to be fully independent of anything that happens in the OT. Though he'll probably be getting the odd chase from an Imperial starship (not the local bulk-cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now). :)

Yeah, it will be full fan service and that is a reason why they could consider sticking old Han and Luke in it at the start or the end. More service, more money in the eyes of Disney. :pac:

So it seems this movie is set ten years before a new hope and possibly covers over 6 years in its story.

Sooo... it could end up being a film set four years before A New Hope. Alden Ehrenreich does not look anything like Han in A New Hope, minus 4 years of age.

I still reckon Emilia Clarke's character will be royalty of some kind.

Bear in mind that youhg Irish kid was cast in it. Wanna say his name is Michael Kennedy? Could well be wrong on the name. But he was in fair city for deffo.

Young Han on the streets / Oliver /Fagan vibe that's how he comes into the world of smuggling and skullduggery. Woody Harrelsons Beckett is the Fagan. That's the main theory anyways. And that sounds like it could be great.

*its hoped and thought Emilia is playing Ahsoka Tano.

"Please, Jabba, can I have some more?" I really hope it isn't Oliver: A Star Wars Version. That would be awful.

There is a picture of Harrelson, Ehrenreich and Clarke on set in costume on IMDB and she doesn't appear to be in CGI attire. Would they consider changing Ahsoka's race to human? Seems a bit too far off-canon for Disney.

^ Solo's hair looks very short. Unless hairstyles were different four years before ANH.

It's unlikely Ahsoka will be in this. Remembering that Han doesn't seem to have encountered a Jedi before Kenobi. Although Chewie does meet her in one of the Clone wars episodes. Clarkes character looks kinda like Leia. Maybe Han has a type.

Hence why I think Clarke's character will be someone with a background in royalty. Disney has to explain Han's fascination with royalty... His sudden turn in opinion when Luke tells him Leia is a princess needs explanation...

Doesn't Luke just says that she's rich.

It's the opportunity for wealth that turns Solo's head. Not her royalty.

I'd say that type of continuity issues will be least of their concerns TBH

    Ugh.

I really dislike Star Wars being lumped in with other Disney crap.

I don't think I'll ever get used to that.

Ah it’s just a drinks cup from Disneyland. No big deal.
Interesting to see how they handle all of it when they launch their streaming service in 2019. They’ll probably seperate up all the properties into separate channels.

Alden looks good though. This whole film will live or die on his performance.

Haha! It’s a very natural response to Lucasfilm and Disney’s impenetrable secrecy.

God be with the days that little making of videos were posted weekly during the making of phantom Menace and the prequels. And they did it without giving anything away.

Anyone a fan of Lethal Weapon? Guy who plays Agent Bowman could be great young Harrison Ford!

Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by this one but I really have no interest or enthusiasm in it (I just think we don't need a young Han Solo movie).

Sooo much other stuff that they could have done: maybe something in between ROTJ and TFA, or something set in another part of the galaxy altogether (the unknown regions), etc.

Benefit of the doubt and all that.....meh,

    struggling to be positive!
