I'm never going to give my money to the organisation responsible for the bucket of televisual shyte that is Winning Streak.

    I never watch it either.

Its not wasted money if the people enjoy spending it on them. Im sure lots of people think you're wasting your money on activities which they don't enjoy. Waste of money is subjective !
Personally I think its not a good way of spending money but hey you're never going to get to do a lotto again after this lifetime so why not try it for a chance sometime anyway.

    RTE?

Spending €160 on lottery tickets is tremendous value in comparison to spending it on Tubbs and D'arsey.

I think there's a lot of pseudo-intellectual sneering at people who do the lotto. I'm sure that most people know the odds of winning are incredibly slim but while they have that ticket they can fantasise about having no money worries, taking exotic holidays, buying a beautiful home, driving an amazing car, looking after their kids' futures and so on.

Daily Million rarely produces a one million winner. Often the best anyone gets is €500 or even as low as €100. Probably because not many tickets are bought. The €25 ticket will get someone a €1,000,000 prize guaranteed.

Winning streak must be a pain in the hoop to work for, same crap week in week out.
I suggest eliminate a person evey round -give the 1st 3 maybe afew grand, then the nxt 2 or 3 go head to head in sumthing like tipping point or sumthing to make itintresting, then the "winner" of that round spins the wheel.

Its the same muck everyweek, half the show is chatting to the guests, then all they do is pick numbers -
    "pick a number Mary
    1,
    Next round...
    Pick a number Mary
    2....
    Bladdher rinse repeat

There is no way of making it interesting, all the games have to be random chance, even your penny drop idea could be considered to have some skill element so it wouldn't be allowed.

This is the reason the likes of the BBC never tried to make a gameshow out of lottery contestants, they ran actual gameshows around the draws. Most of those were crap but nothing like the desperate cringefest RTE sick up.

I'm in the syndicate at work. It's probably going to be money squandered but on the off chance that it isn't...

The best part of playing the lotto is fantasising about what you're going to spend it on. I haven't played it in a while but I just know the next time will be my time. This time next year I'm gonna be a millionaire

I'm really looking forward to the day i win the lotto, it seems like a costly exercise at the minute but it will be worth it when the day comes.

Perhaps indicative of a sense of desperation engendered by decreasing levels of social mobility combined with being bombarded by ostentatious wealth in the mass media.

Ticket 11 was called out, but it was the wrong way up.

What happened to the days that a £2 scratch card was their most expensive item?
You have more of a chance of winning your money back, or making a profit, with the €5 scratchies, over the €2 scratchies.

I don't get the smugness people have about others doing the lotto.

Look, the lotto has been set up that it only costs a few euro and it's enticing to do it because maybe, if you're lucky enough, you can win a lot of money. There is zero harm or no stupidity in throwing a few euro on it each week.

Because if you want to throw the words stupid and money together well there are other foolish things than doing the lotto. Such as paying over the odds for a product because you're too lazy to go out of your way to somewhere else where it is cheaper. Etc.

The lotto is only stupid if you're the type of person who spends 50 a week or more then complains why you never win.

Exactly! How many of these smug anti-lottery heads pay ridiculous money on some 'fancy' coffee or things like that? Different people get their kicks in different ways.

I hate the smug attitude to the lotto, it is what it is and the vast vast majority of people who play know that.

The lottery is a tax on the poor, and the stupid.

    Absolute muck outta you.

Nothing wrong with doing the lotto if you have some spare change.

I was in a shop last year and did a euromillions line as I bought some stuff, won €2k, 1 more num and it would have been €500k.

    I was so stupid wasn't I...

Someone in Switzerland isn’t regretting winning €135 million last night.

I got two scratch cards in a Christmas card last week.
Won nothing but I had fun anyway.

I don't buy lottery products myself but I still enjoy the thrill of anticipation hoping I'll match 3 or my numbers will come up, so I understand why people enjoy it.

But I could have a good holiday on what some folk I know spend on tickets every year.

The old Irish Sweepstakes was a scam, the greatest bleeding heart racket in the world, who is to say that this isn't?

All those hapes of money, who is watching them?

They were probably buying Christmas presents. OAPs don't always walk that far. Being able to do all their shopping on the local shop or post office can be a godsend for them.

It's gone completely downhill since the Canadians got their hands on it

The lottery is not a tax on stupidity or any of that smug shít people spout. It's a small gamble on an extreme longshot.
Nobody plays the euro millions expecting to win - you play in the hope that it might just be you, the odds are incredibly small but eventually someone will win it and it's as likely to be you as anyone else, and if it is it's a gold plated yacht sailing the Riviera instead of the luas to work.
I bet you Delores McNamara doesn't wake up every morning cursing her decision and imagining what she could have spent that tenner stupidity tax on instead!

I do the lotto around once a year. Infrequent enough that I'm convinced I'm gonna win...

Failing that my Mam usually puts a scratch card in my Christmas card. No way I'd go on Winning Streak though, I'd get her to go on and I'll be happy waving a banner in the crowd "SPIN THAT WHEEL MAM!"
