Oven tripping trip box, smoke from dials

    Hello,

I've had issues with my oven before but is fixed by flipping the trip box switch back on. Originally I thought the light was gone, but everything worked fine.

A few months later its happened again. I've never used the timer on the oven but I think this causes the trip. I tried turning it back on, but the second time a small bit of smoke came from underneath the dials. It was a spark, then smoke so I am assuming the fuse was blown.

I am hesitant to try it again, since if a fire starts its in a place I cant really get to.

If it is the fuse, is this fixable? I'd assume I'd need to get to the back of the oven. Its been fixed in-place for years so might take some work. Also, if the risk of fire is low, I might be able to fix it. I don't want to have someone come out to literally turn it back on from the mains and have it working again.

Any advise? This happening so close to Christmas is a pain.

Smoke coming from anything electrical is not a good sign and can be dangerous.

Best advice is turn off the cooker switch on the wall and either call an appliance repair company or replace the cooker.

For future reference there is usually a good reason why a trip switch trips. Especially if it trips more than once. It's a warning. It's at this stage that the appliance should be checked out.
