Bucketing rain in south Dublin, from a direction it doesn't normally come from too. Woke me up it is so heavily raining.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Had to do a quick spin to Rathdowney and rain is turning more and more to heavy sleet. Temps have dropped by 0.5c.

It reached a high of 4.6C at 1.23am, and currently it is 3.3C and falling.
16.4mm of rain so far today.

Just 0.1c milder here over the border in south Laois. A wee bit less rain at 9.7mm.

    Winds now gone ENE.

A notable drop in the last few minutes. I suspect the feed from the Celtic sea via the east coast brought in by the low pressure is getting shut down as the low moves off SEwards.

Johnstown in North Kilkenny (near Urlingford) showing a similar if even more defined drop.

I actually thought it would be a degree or so higher at Island Bawn in Howth: http://howthweather.com/

    Currently 2.9/ 1.9

Some further intensification of the precip and lighter winds could bring some sleet in a few hours.

2.9C, so a 0.4C drop in 15 minutes and it is consistent.
It will be snowing here within the hour.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Dropped a full 1.0c now in the last half hour. At long last, the trend is my friend! :D

    3.1c with dewpoint at 2.1c

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Johnstown is nose-diving, down to 2.4c there now.

Still only rain here in Portlaoise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Turned on the yard light and big blobs of sleet coming down with the rain. Another 1c or so drop and it'll be snowing.

Yeah very sleety here now too. Hopefully within the hour can have a transition to snow.

Interestingly, Ballybrittas is showing a much slower drop in temperatures. There it peaked at 3.1c after midnight and it has dropped very slowly to 2.5c at present.

You should be getting sleet there at the moment though. Another 1c drop or thereabouts it will be wet snow/proper snow.

Snowing in Clonaslee and Tullamore for the last while according to reports.

Castlebar from an hour ago. Still coming down steadily.

2.5C now so a 0.4C drop in 10 minutes, the cooling is accelerating.

Nothing but rain here in Dublin.

Gone to 2.8c here now Rob

Johnstown is 1.9c - snow is imminent there.

The magic number for me here is 1.7c/0.7c so only another 1c or so to go!

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,736 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Similar, when it gets under 2C...the fun is near.
2.3C, looks to be approx 50% snow/rain mix.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,736 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

You would know it was turning more to snow as well as the rain rate on my Davis weather station has fallen a lot...

  • Registered Users Posts: 413 ✭✭DaithiMa

Gutted after watching the Lomachenko v Rigondeaux fight but at least I got to see lots of snow fall. Been snowing for a good 3 hours now. North/slightly west of Tuam. 60m ASL. Not heavily all the time but should be a good coating by morning time.. https://imgur.com/KizkOh7

Wind seems to have calmed down and rain now turning increasingly to sleet in Carlow town.

Does that weather station still exist. I know Met Eireann replaced with with Oak park. Got to Urban i think.

    Lashing in Waterford now 7c.

No, was replaced 10 years ago by Carlow (automatic)

1.8C and it looks like I can declare it is snowing on the hills north east of Kilkenny city.

    Hmmm

Thought it would be more like 2c warmer myself.

Gone to wet snow here now 1.9c/0.9cDP

Johnstow is 1.1c so most likely snowing there.

Some of the 00z guidance promises heavy snow for inland southeast, south and even southwest, low drops straight south once it reaches Clare coast ... Hirlam has it quite intense, Arpege not quite as good.

Rain will eventually change to snow in many places today, with possible exception of east coast.
