I updated the app and it asked for phone and pin but wouldn't log me in.

I restarted the phone and it accepted the log in details.

I got in there just now, didn't restart the phone or reset anything (apart from updating the app about 3 hours ago).

I think it just works "eventually".

The 6 digit SMS arrived instantly. Make sure not to put "0" after the "+353"

Loving the new app phone notifications:

"Amazon just sent you a refund of £5"

Normally you'd just have to look for those in the transaction history

The payments from the 5th say 'This payment is awaiting the merchant's confirmation or reversal'

How long did it take for the money to be returned to the account?

see I'm worried here of a big turn around time for the money to be returned and the AMAZON orders cancelled - cause some of the items ordered are for Santy and either no longer available, or at a much higher price now :( if i had to reorder.

Amazon is entirely to blame here, not Revolut. To avoid this happening in the future, you should buy Amazon credit before placing your order.

    I hear ya!

got a auth. code from Amazon for the funds to be returned promptly and looks like things are back on track, but ive purchased dozens of items in the past with other cards and never had this problem - the first 3 transactions with Revolut and they bounce!?!?

I've been doing this successfully. But yesterday the purchase of the Amazon credit did the same thing!

    Intersting!

Actually, that seems to have been very short lived. By the time I'd posted the second transaction was gone.

Here's a tip when topping up from another account/card - use non standard amounts.
Was getting hard to track the multiple 50.00 top ups so now I'm not using whole number amounts eg 51.25

Yeah full coin at 13.7K. Did a good bit of research after its rise in last 7 days so taking a chance, will sell if it reaches 30k.
    https://www.revolut.com/ch/faq#are-there-any-limits-on-exchanges

You are eligible to exchange up to a maximum of €10,000 per single transaction.

I'm confused about the crypto exchange and maybe I'm way off on this. But it's my understanding that to offer instant exchange they'd need to have bought a huge amount of Bitcoin already otherwise you'd have to wait for the block chain to validate when you went to exchange. Wouldn't this mean if it crashed they'd be exposed to massive loses?

    Great point.
Also, I notice the top ups by card are now instantly updating your balance where before they would take a minute or two to confirm.

Any idea exactly what's going wrong? Bought plenty of stuff on Amazon with Revolut and never had an issue.

I think, and this is just going by what I've heard from a few friends who have had the issue, that it's just a bit of a cockup by Amazon's payment system during the busy sales time.

Normally Amazon only charge when the item is dispatching. During the busy BF and Cyber monday sales weeks it seems they were pre-authorising card when the order was made - then trying to charge again at dispatch without releasing the original authorisation first

    Sounds about right tbh.

But they must be inundated with complaints of double payment/charge.

I've been using a virtual card mostly but decided to get a physical card which arrived today. With contactless payments do they force the use of a pin after every few transactions like my ptsb card does?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Yup I believe so. I think almost every contactless card does for safety.

Hi, apologies if this has been asked before. I got a Revolut account and MasterCard recently and I used it for the first time yesterday for a chip and pin transaction. The price of the item was €6.40 but it was shown on the card terminal as £5.82 and when I checked my app today €6.66 was taken from it. My question is can I somehow change the settings so that when I use the card in Ireland it charges me in Euro? Thanks in advance

Basically the retailer has ripped you off and I would take it up with them if I were you. Their terminal identifed your card as being a UK card and has therefore converted the transaction into sterling at their crappy exchange rate. You should have been asked if you wanted the transaction converted to sterling for you - to which of course you would have responded 'no'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Yeah you should have been asked what currency to pay in

Most of the time you want to reject the retailer converting the currency for you for your convenience rather than taking the chance with your bank which may have worse fees etc etc... It's usually a load of nonsense to get you to use their awful conversion fees. The whole point of Revolut is that you have control over the currency conversion yourself to avoid such a swizz.

Thanks for your replies. Yeah, I had said to the barman that I needed to use chip and pin (as it was my first time using the card) so he obviously had already converted currency by the time he brought the terminal over. Good to know now :)

Anyone using Cryptocurrencies yet? I decide to give it a go and converted my balance to Bitcoin. Seems like an easy 12% bump so far. :)

No. There's 330 pages on this thread of people waiting to pull the trigger.

Just me then. I think my first test purchase will be two pizzas. :pac:

My apologies, got confused between this and the Bitcoin thread!

I'm steering clear of Revolut's offering for a while as their rates are just scandalous.

    Their crypto/euro exchange rates.

    Their crypto/euro exchange rates.

Not important at the moment - you can't send to an external wallet yet anyway. I just converted my balance at the spot rate and its euro value is up 11% right now - doesn't matter if 1 BTC is €2 or €20,000.

Surely it counts when you're buying the crypto in the first place. You would get x% more buying the crypto on one of the other exchanges, gdax for example.
