Just wanted to pass back my feelings on the 55pus6272 after having it for a few weeks:

    PROS:

Picture is fantastic! (yes you will want to play with the settings and out of the box it's over pushing on EVERYTHING! Brightness, contrast and colour all at nuts levels but ajust and it's amazing.

4K when you get it working is as huge jump but having said that a 1080P signal looks out of the world too so your HD still will be mega!

Ambilight is amazing! If you are new to it then it WILL blow you away, if your like me and had a few TV's with it, well it's still amazing and well worth it.

    CONS:

All this talk of HDR but no setting to ajust or even turn on/off.... ?

Sound is not that good compared to what I had in my 10 year old Philips TV.
As I have a HT amp it's fine for background stuff but if I'm watching TV I will deffo be using the amp. In short, a sound bar is needed at least!

Sorry to say the built in apps need work. With sound coming before the picture in YouTube, Netflix and Amazon apps it makes using them a pain. It can very from app to app but in all of them the sound is out a little with no way to fix.. When in the 'Smart' side of the TV you don't get all the controls you get when using the main Dumb parts of it.
...In short, I have found the best way to use Netflix with it is to use a chromecast as your still in the Dumb side of the TV and can ajust all the picture and sound settings to match and you still get the internet stuff.

Be warned: Sometime even using any other sound setting than 'Stereo' can knock the sound out even when watching TV, a restart sorts tho.

Philips are aware and have been pushing out firmware updates that while have helped but really they need to do more to get all the kinks worked out. Best way to help is to sound off in the Philips TV forums where they are a lot of unhappy people.

Thanks for that Coul d you please tell me is it saorview and sat tuner built in.

I won't get to use mine for a few days, I am interested in God's Toy's very helpful comment about their experience on it, particularly about getting colours/ picture right.
I will follow this and post back once I find good settings when I use it

Nope, no saorview as it's not built in . Like most TVs you would get from the likes of Argos, unless they're specified to be distributed in Ireland (and it would say as much in the catalog 'saorview compatible') it won't be there. Satellite tuner is built-in and does work however will pick up all channels not just the ones you would see on FreeSat so you have a lit of sorting to do once it's loaded up every one of them. To make it useable you need to make a favourites list and that let's you put them in the order you want as the default is not editable.

EDIT: just wanted to make an edit to this post to say that other posters have said that it may indeed work as the TV tuner that works here would akso work in the UK .
If this is the case then you should be fine. (Apologies for any confusion… I do not have a working antenna on my roof to test this)

Any questions from anyone, please just ask.

Just remember mine is the 55psu6272 and that features and experiences could be model specific. Some of these TVs are listed running Android TV but my particular one does not and this could change things for the end user.

Do you need a box or will i get away with just an aerial?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 194 ✭✭huntsman77

So you will get all saorview channels from aerial and BBC itv and that from Sat feed without any extra box's

Yes, exactly. I attached the aerial, scanned and got the usual suspects of RTE, TV3, TG4, RTE Junior, etc. If Saorview deliver something else that I'm not aware of then apologies, I've never had a dedicated box.

If the other reply is right then you should be good to go however may not be fully compatible with all services as it's not 'certified' on the box. ( I remember there was a thing going back about TVs and DVRs being certified or not) currently I do not have fully working aerial on my roof so not been able to test this.

I got it working no problem,i just use a small indoor aerial and i get all the saorview channels, mostly use the tv for movies.
On a different note, what picture settings are you using? Like colour, contrast, sharpness etc

Yep tested with one and didn't work. Being in the middle of nowhere is a pain at times.
settings are way down for me as its a very bright and vibrant panel. Colour 38 to 40 (depending) Brightness 40 Contrast 60 Sharpness 8

Over all that's good for everyone but it's probably close to the old TV it replaced.

Question for anyone with an ambilight TV. My TV is in the corner of the room so about 5 inches to the left of it is a wall, would this be bothersome for the ambilight effect or distracting having all the light on that side shining on a wall?

    That depends on the individual.
Personally I think it will be great but it made draw your eye if the colour/light/brightness is not uniform ... Is the TV is not centred near one wall and not near another wall or panel? I don't think it'd be a distraction really but I would probably test with putting a desk lamp or something behind your TV (take the light shade off it) and have it turned on and see if the light from it isn't centred or is distracting to you.
Also remember you can turn up or turn down the ambilght effect you can't seem to turn left or right brighter so they could be that too.

I can post a pic of how I have it if you want.

I've attached a pic of what I'm working with (an old picture, I'm not currently at home watch old episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark unfortunately).

The ambilight TV I'm looking at is a TV i want regardless of the lighting effect so I really shouldn't worry but I've grown fond of the idea of having it working. I didn't know you could adjust brightness and all so that would surely help if it proves annoying having all the left sided light on the wall.
