How to open glass light fitting??

Hi all,

I recently moved into a new house and the bulb just went in the bathroom.
There is an enclosed glass light fitting and I can't figure out how to get it open.
If I start to twist it, it seems to twist the whole thing including what is fitted into the ceiling and I'm afraid I'll pull the whole thing down.

The light fitting looks like this:

I assumed the glass would twist off the metal part but the don't seem to move independently of each other.

There are 3 of these around the metal part. Not sure if they are part of the solution or not.

I appreciate any help here!!

Pics are a bit small, but it looks as though there are three lugs which push inward to release the shade.

Thanks. I've tried this. They don't seem to move independently of each other.
Maybe they should but they don't seem to want to.

Could just be a case that you pull the glass straight down, might be metal spring things holding the glass up.

My brother had something similar in his bathroom. For love or money it wouldn't budge and the fixings attached to the ceiling was coming lose. We cut our losses and covered the fitting with a bag and broke the glass and just replaced the whole unit.

Thanks! This worked!

Was planning on redoing the whole bathroom in January anyway, so don't mind losing the fitting.
I hadn't thought to smash it with a hammer. I had considered just ripping it from the ceiling, but didn't want to have to replace the ceiling too!

Thanks to everyone for all the other suggestions too. I tried them all... in the end the hammer won!
