Reversing sensors on VW Tiguan

How do you turn off the reversing sensors on a 2012 VW Tiguan?
Using it to do the trailer test on Tuesday, and the sensors sound when reversing the trailer, which is annoying and distracting.
The indicator repeaters are working when the trailer is connected.
Have tried different trailers and same result.

When i connect the trailer lights on my jeep (Disco), it turns them off, but unfortunately i can't do the test in it as its automatic and i dont want to be limited to pulling trailers with an automatic, ridiculous rule IMO, especially as i already have my full rigid (C) licence.

Even went as far to read to manual.... it says press the button to turn off, cant find the button!!

    Thanks in advance

If they are genuine sensors you will have a "P" button in front of the gearstick to turn them off.

It sounds like they may be spurious sensors though because genuine sensors like in your Disco should automatically deactivate when the trailer socket is in use, in which case you won't have a button on the dash.

Could you just plug out the speaker for the test?

If they are aftermarket sensors your local car radio/alarm shop (not Halfords) will be able to wire in a simple switch to knock them off when you're pulling the trailer.

I've seen aftermarket sensor kits with the speaker in the control box (which is normally mounted under a trim panel in the boot) or kits with the speaker as part of a dash mounted display unit or a seperate speaker unit mounted behind the dashboard. Bring it to someone familiar with installing aftermarket sensor kits.

If it’s just rear sensors it’s possible that it doesn’t have a button even if factory and they operate only when reverse is engaged. They can be coded to work with a trailer connected.

Is there an option to mute them on the radio when you engage reverse or in the menu?

Do they sit proud of the bumper like this:

Or flush with the bumper like this:

If it's the latter then they are genuine.

Thanks so much for all the replies, really appreciated.
The are fitted after market, so hence i couldn't find the button!!
Found the control box behind the access panel for the rear light, so will just disconnect the power cable.
And we are good to go.

Now all i have to do is remember the stopping distances and hand signals..... (driving 20 years and haven't needed them yet!)
