Why does strength of the channel (1-13) on my router immediately fall off in quality

    I'm currently on channel 5 showing middling strength.  The best strnghts available now are channel 8-13.  I opt for one of them the situation revereses and the best channels showing will be 1-6 etc.

    any ideas?
