how often service gas boiler if rarely use central heating?

Only turn on central heating about 30 times a year for a few hours. Boiler is about 12 years old now. Do you still need to service every year or would I get away with every second year? Not concerned about efficiency, more so the safety.

For safety reasons you should have your gas appliance serviced and safety checked annually.
