Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

need a shorter book

    I'm looking for something shorter e.g. 250 to 350 pages.
    I want something more literature than pulp.
    I don't mind flowery writing as long as the author doesn't lose the run of themselves.
    Not Irish.
    Not a collection of short stories.
    Not existential.
    Not financial.
    Not depressing.
    Not a whodunnit or Kafkaesque.
    Not Mills and Boon.
    Definitely not targeted at teenagers; they just don't hit the spot with me. tried that.
    Not published in the last 20 years i.e. stood the test of time.

    I won't be reading it in my native language.
    Completed a couple of books in a foreign language but the last one nearly killed me; Love in the Time of Cholera is a great book but not an easy read in another language and too long.
    Easy enough to find a book which isn't any of those things until you add the restriction of it not being over 350 pages long. If I were reading in English I'd have no problem with a longer book.

    Any suggestions?

    Must be 1000s of great slim novels out there. Though many great novels tend to be either existentialist or a bit depressing by nature.

    Perfume by Patrick Suskind is the first book that springs to mind
