Is the narcissism of RTE employees getting out of hand?

Montrose should be declared its own little country at this stage. Albeit a small country. (In fact, no, I would say a small cosy little bubble). Inside this little bubble live loads of RTE people who think they are so great and talented that they are now dedicating programs to guess who?...themselves. The undercurrent of all these programs is that “we’re extra-ordinary people doing an extra-ordinary job”. Yes, folks it’s gone that bad. Nearly every Late Late Show is now dedicated to the RTE stars themselves (freshly recruited from the canteen) all telling us (the plebs) how great they are. Like a lot of RTE indigenous programming - its become one big RTE-love-in. No wonder genuinely talented people like Pat Kenny left. Discuss.

Good post, bunch of over paid degenerate druggies if you ask me. Drunk with power. Bet anything RTE has a few Jimmy Saville's. Some of those squeaky clean types.

    Here's someone on €300,000 or €400,000 a year talking of unemployment.

People who watch their muck deserve to be brainwashed, and that's all they do.

RTE, where truth goes to die.

Worse yet, the constant schmoozing in of "journalists" from the indo.

The Marian Finucane Show. Hosted by every Tom Dick and Harry , and if we're lucky Marian herself on a good day.

RTÉ as a whole is summed up by one person. Lottie Ryan. Talentless and gormless. Stealing a wage from the genuinely talented people looking to break into TV/radio.

I'd do 6 months in Mountjoy before I'd hand over money for the license fee.

Tbf this has probably been the best year for the late late show guests in along while

This Donal Skehan guy, who the f#ck is he?

For a long time before he was a celebrity chef, he was a man who would try his hand at anything and who RTE would readily give the platform.

    Why?

Kathryn Thomas who the hell does she think she is? She's not even remotely good looking. Not many of the high profile RTE names would survive if it was Privatised and they had to earn their keep.

RTE have always done this since their inception, and the difference between then and now is that back then they really were talented, interesting, and often times hilarious -

Nowadays, the likes of Tubridy trying to emulate his heroes on American late night television has turned the Late Late into a turgid mess of sycophants.

Fair City. The only half decent comedy they've produced in years. The rest is utter drivel.

She surely knows that her being where she is is the pinnacle of nepotism? I wonder does it ever bother her, or has she convinced herself she's there on merit.

The whole concept of a tv licence is just bizarre. I don't think it stands up to any analysis in this day and age.

What gauls me is that I myself can't actually receive a Signal unless I pay Sky. I wouldn't object to it being reformed into an Internet tax instead and use the money to provide Fibre Optic to the Home to every house whether your in inner city Dublin or the arse end of Donegal.

How are the likes of Vogue Williams, Louise o Neill and Alison Spittle allowed to do a show and the constant use of them and vacuous nobodies like Roz Purcell, Amanda Brunker , Rosanna Davidson etc on chat shows...anywhere else they wouldn't get on a transition years audio project unless they were hosting it

Mate of mine swears that a good few years back Mike Murphy had a one to one talk show on RTE and he interviewed Gay Byrne for one whole episode and about a year later Gay Byrne had a show with a similar format and interviewed Mike Murphy for a whole episode. Not sure if hes mistaken in his head but it does sound right up RTEs street.

Sure you can nearly guarantee that there will be at least one RTE employee on the Late Late Show and the Ray Darcy Show every week.

And then you can add in those people who may as well be RTE employees, they are on that often. Like Nathan Carter, Louis Walsh, Amanda Brunker, Ciara Kelly, Nora Casey, Francis Brennan.......

When you think of all the money they spent on broadcasting Donal Skehan, Vapid Vogue Williams and Lottie Ryan to the masses, nothing short of tossing the commissioning producers into a septic tank would be sufficient as punishment.

Then again, septic tanks and the current state of RTÉ programming aren't exactly mutually exclusive these days.

I dont really have a problem with public service broadcasting but it should surely supply good value for money which RTE certainly doesnt, doesnt need 2 TV stations and multiple radio stations to meet its obligations. 2fm could shut in the morning and the country would be no worse off than it is now, it hits the same demographics as today fm and countless other smaller operations.

They should have edgy and hip people on.

    Out of sight.

All women.. do you think that maybe.. it's those fucking WOMEN WHO ARE THE GODDAMN PROBLEM?

Like most other things in Ireland, it's not what you know...it's who you know.
    That and nepotism.

I see now they're considering using Revenue to shake down the licence fee to give us more quality home-grown shows...I mean... keep them in the luxury they are accustomed to.

Alison Spittle. 'Nuff said. I can't imagine any other country where this painfully unfunny 'comedian' would be given her own show.

Marty Whelan is a ****ing legend though.

Winning streak isn't my cup of tea but yes he is a comfortable relaxed pro and could do more. His Lyric morning show is superb.

It would be great if you could pay on a meritocratic per-talent subscription basis. That would promote the Martys and demote the Lotties.

Whilst in the GP I read an interview with the sister who is a singer.

I use that term lightly of course!

She seems to think she's there on merit alright. She's wrong.

It will be jacked up to 300.00 a year and Revenue will deduct it at source
