In terms of "swiss made" which this model is... Honestly what kind of a swiss watch would this be? Is the movement really swiss? Seems awfully cheap for swiss made watch. I know the price was reduced for black Friday but for this price would you buy it?

For that money this would be a far better buy IMO.

Like I said on the other thread - Swiss made can be had for around €30 new (if you buy a Swatch watch).

Just like chocolates - Swiss doesn't have to be expensive.

A good watch is a good watch no matter where it is made - that Citizen might have a few components made in China... Some VW Polos are made in Brazil not Germany etc. etc.

Living in a globalised world it just means that "made in" doesn't mean much actually. Prada shoes are "made in" Italy...but most of the materials and 90% of shoe is manufactured in Eastern Europe and then the sole or upper is inserted in Italy... doesn't mean that the workmanship is bad - it's just that luxury brands sometimes want to associate a location with quality (or disassociate themselves from "cheap" places).

Take Luxottica for example - probably makes every sunglasses in the world (they own all the license brands I think) - but their products are segmented from luxury (Ray-ban) to cheap and everything in-between.

Same for underwear - the luxury lines are often made right beside the ones being shipped out to Penneys and the like. Of course they make them to different grades but it's all made in the same place.

One Chinese company (Da Vinci) was quite funny - they made all their furniture in China, shipped it to Italy, got some legal maneuvering in place, and then shipped them back to China to sell to Chinese consumers as "made in Italy"... the goods were exactly the same, but Chinese consumers would only buy it if it was made in Italy and not China :D

On the other hand - sometimes it pays to buy EU goods even if the exact same is available elsewhere - here we have the concept of A, B, C grade of goods - sometimes C grade stuff is kept in China to sell on the domestic market and A-B grade is sent off to EU/US. So buying a Chinese Dell laptop and Irish Dell of the exact same specifications could be slightly different (taking Dell as a random example - not sure if they use different grades for different markets).

I've a couple of Rotary watches, 1 of them is "old" and is a great watch, feels like a good piece of kit the newer 1 is a piece of junk in my opinion.

The older ones from the day were all Swiss Made, now most of Rotary's stuff is made in the far east with cheaper japanese movements. However they do have their "les originales" model range which are Swiss Made. I bought the watch in the link above and there is an obvious difference in fit and finish compared to their cheaper range. I looked at cheaper Rotarys in Jewellers around Dublin and they are OK but the Swiss Made one had a much better case finish and sapphire glass. As a first Swiss Made watch I am very pleased with it. The hybrid movement in it is very interesting as well.
