Ha ha FF who apparently have moral authority clambering to get in on the act having dithered to give Michael time on his own to work it all out.

She has to go. She handled and continues to handle the whole McCabe scandal terribly. We wouldn't be here today if he hadn't taped the conversation and the senior Gardaí (still unpunished) were allowed get away with their blatant lies at a Commission of Inquiry. It really is beyond condemnation.

The Gardaí are still a corrupt shambles and I don't think Fitzgerald did a damn thing about it.

How they let O'Sullivan retire with a huge payout after what she did is the reason I will not vote FG in the next election. I voted FG #1 and #2 in the previous 2 elections but they really achieve very very little.

Wrong time of the year to go for an election, people dont want to be hit with canvassing at this time of year or have to worry about the result.

Let's have another general election if even to see the journal.ie explode when its ff/fg again.

I don't think there's legal grounds to clip a pension etc in such a matter.

Realisitcally the only possible change is things swap and its FF in power with FG supporting, nobody wins from an election right now.

Tbh i dont think FF have the numbers to make that happen FG are on the up regardless of what the loud minority would like to believe or shout and scream about

She should not have been allowed retire. She instructed senior Gardaí to lie to discredit a very honest and brave man who are few and far between in this country. The senior Gardai got caught out - they had hoped it was their word against McCabe's. She should have been charged with perverting the court of justice or whatever law is broken committing perjury at a Commission of Inquiry.

And I haven't even mentioned the TUSLA child abuse accusation cause by "bad filing" yet!

If there's an election then the parties who cause it could well suffer by losing seats.
If there's one thing i've learned from life it's never to take anything for granted.

FG will have caused it with their outright corruption and treatment of whistle blowers.

    and the senior Gardaí (still unpunished}

Probably because there are too many of them and it would cost billions and billions to prosecute.

De party of law and order.

    Some accusations there.

It suits nobody to have an election now. I think Frances Fitzgerald will step down and that will be that.

I meant the 2 senior Gardaí that lied during the Commission of Inquiry to discredit McCabe.

She should be brought to justice not just let step aside.

She was correct in saying that she could not have taken any action. Had she done so, she would have been blamed for trying to cover up for the Gardai as well as interfering in the legal process.

I've read the email and I think this is now political point scoring, which is not new.

If I were leo I'd let it go to an election. Let FF and SF take over to mess up the post Brexit economy.

This is public knowledge. How have you forgotten?

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/garda-chief-in-fresh-crisis-over-20-secret-tapes-34715656.html
UP to 20 secret recordings were submitted to the O'Higgins Commission by garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe, several of which contradicted allegations made against him by senior gardai, the Sunday Independent can reveal.

The secretly recorded tapes of conversations between Sgt McCabe and other officers led to a "climb down" on the Garda position "on a few occasions" during O'Higgins Commission hearings, according to sources.

Allegations of further contradiction in evidence will increase pressure on the Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan to clarify why she praised Sgt McCabe in public while her legal team claimed privately to the inquiry that he was motivated by malice.

In another incident, an officer claimed in the witness box that Sgt McCabe refused to cooperate with an internal Garda investigation whereas the recording revealed otherwise, according to sources.

A source close to Sgt McCabe last night claimed senior officers "tried to bury" him during the inquiry.
Sgt McCabe, who regularly recorded conversations with colleagues, was asked to submit the tapes by Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins, who headed the inquiry.

There was no proof of that. Ultimately the two gardai who swore to that testimony are the ones with their honesty questioned. She didn't testify to it. There are questions unanswered as to why she didn't launch an investigation into the testimony until it became public knowledge however, much as there is with regards francis fitzgerald not asking why the testimony of two gardai (a chief superintendent one of them) was dropped for the reasons it was.

The Tulsa child abuse accusation fell under the regime of her far darker predecessor.

That was gas on Prime Time. The presenter took Murphys bait and wanted to deflect to making it all about SF and was clearly told in his headphones to shut up. Hilarious stuff.

Is there a conflict of interest in Miriam O'Callaghan presenting a programme about a political issue that her brother is so central in?

Not liking FG because they dont tell them they will have to pay no tax if elected is not a valid political opinion

That may well be true, but that begs the question why she didn't inquire when it was withdrawn. She's read an email that questions mccabes integrity yet when it and he emerges from the inquiry intact she has no queries of her own?

RTE is full of conflicts of interest. Public service broadcaster my arse.

Right. I'll be found dead in a mobility scooter half eaten by whatever pet I might own in the future before that happens and so will you, but we can hope for the unlikely to occur.
