Saeros looks around the empty clearing.

Ahhh ****it this is messy. The least risk in with the largest group so I'm gonna follow along for now. Pity the little thief though, I wonder who will kill her first, the dwarf, the mad cleric or the Devil.

I climb onto 'piphs back and let the horse follow the trail as I study my spellbook.

OOC: While pondering on the Devil I remember that I don't know which of the party is carrying the larva that Xesticles vomited up for when we need to replace the key bearer.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

OOC: It's Elin who has the maggot. I'll be posting Thurmunton itself soon.

Bandylegs next rides up to Ekbard's cart, and pulls the papers from Askit's desk from his saddlebag.

'Oy, magick man - these be better served with ye than me. They're all gobbledy-gook to a dwarf, but to a man of yer talents it should be of interest. Careful who ye share those with lad, the warrior queen is an acolyte of Askit and may not be too happy I took em.'

OOC: Can I read these? Or are they nonsense to me too?

OOC: Was about to say, your Int is effectively 16 for this roll due to Arcane Lore. You succeeded anyway though.

Alexander thumbs through the papers. Very disconcerting to say the least. Askit and the other Clerics have been gathering artifacts from places of power belonging to the old empires, as Askit had admitted.

However they're being used in a secret chamber deep in the temple of Soet to construct some sort of summoning circle, for which this god's blood is required. Whatever they're summoning is, it's from a very distant plane.

It would be a good idea to be well away from Soetrard should they succeed.

As Menace gallops onwards at a swift pace, Ekbard feels the rush of air across his face. Ekbard's mind begins to stray to future battles and of adventuring in dungeons, his imagination in full swing, but is soon stirred out of his daydreaming as the cart jerks over some uneven surface.
Ekbard pulls his shopping list out of his pocket and adds to it....
    1) torches, many torches.
    2) A Pole Arm

He then pushes the list back into his pocket and goes back to daydreaming.

Ekbard commands Menace to slow the pace until Bandylegs catches up.
When he does, he tells Bandylegs, "Okay, I've thought it over, and I am willing go into tomb with just you and the thief, while the others wait in safety. I'd much prefer for a larger party to go in, but if the thief is not going to budge on her share, then 3 of us it is."

    Bandylegs nods at Ekbard.

'Aye, and prefer it I would meself, Ekbard. With a larger party that is. I suspect the thief has plans to liberate the entire haul though. Might be safest to have a firm discussion with the lass. Three of us, should we survive means less loot to carry out. Leave it with me.'

    Bandylegs trots over to Elin.

'Listen lass, I've been thinking. Bandylegs does not wish to break a deal with ye, we have a level of trust at the moment. I can understand yer trepidation, but a larger group means more treasure fer us all. I've been thinkin and wrackin me brain trying to come up with a solution to our....misunderstandin... Half of me own haul is promised to another, but if ye promise to play nice and cut the others in, half of me own half is yers. Bandylegs has no need for large riches, only enough to build a monument to Vergedain, and I can't do that till I get the god's blood and bring it back. What say ye?'

OOC: So if we're successful in the dungeon, Citra gets 50 per cent of my haul, Elin gets 25 per cent and I get 25 per cent. I still get the XP though which is probably more important for the tower quest.

"I spy with my little eye something beginning with.... R!"

Othegre waits a moment, then laughs.

"you're too good at this, Simon. Your turn.... no, it is..... It's not alive, it's just evil. It can't play..... wait, hold up"

She notices the Dwarf handling papers. Some kind of secret mission? Is this what's got the thief and the elf so antsy? And why's he handing them to that guy in the cart? Who *is* that guy in the cart? Has he been there the whole time? Are there more people in the cart? Are we going to Thurmonton to sell the people? Ever curious, Othegre spurs Clipclop over towards the cart and flashes Alexander her best smile.

    "Watcha reeeeeeeeeading?" she sings.

Bandylegs has had enough of talking for now. He opens one of his rations and eats it to sustain himself, and takes a long drink from his wineskin.
He begins to sing to himself quite low:

'Well the dwarves kept on choppin’ that forest to stumps
And the elves’ fighting spirits were down in the dumps
They sieged once again, but were met by the pumps
While the elves’ fat was melting, the dwarves got more plump!

Back in the forest, at the elven retreat
The elves were quite puzzled by this sound defeat
“Perhaps,” said the druid, “we shouldn’t compete,
“If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! Now pass me the meat!”

    For it's hey-di-lee hi, and ho-di-lee hok,
The dwarves strike the earth and make love to the rock!
Oh, Blood for the Blood God, more blood for Armok!
    It’s a hey-di-lee hi, and ho-di-lee hok.

In the Smooth Points of Pride, a new fortress was found,
With incredible wealth in the depths of the ground,
And the elves came to trade though they scowled and they frowned,
For the trinkets of this place were scepters and crowns.

A talc ring for berries, a goblet for cloth,
It seemed that the riches were sweet heady broth,
So the elves kept on coming, despite their great wroth,
Till the day it all ended in red bloody froth.

    For it's hey-di-lee hi, and ho-di-lee hok,
The dwarves strike the earth and make love to the rock!
Oh, Blood for the Blood God, more blood for Armok!
    It’s a hey-di-lee hi, and ho-di-lee hok.'

Elin narrows her eyes. "Ok lets work this out for a moment, say there are 120 pieces of gold in the temple. My third of this is worth 40 pieces of gold.
If I agree to what you propose, that 120 will be split between 10 people so I will be entitled to 12 gold. With 25% of your 12 gold pieces that brings me to 15 gold pieces.
So on the one hand I have 40 gold, on the other I have 15. Now I know you're not so silly to realise which is the bigger pile?

Do what you want with the remaining two thirds of whatever is in the tower. I will be taking my third and that's the end of the discussion! I may be a thief but I keep my word and expect others to keep theirs too. We will have a problem dwarf if you keep me from what is owed." She urges her horse forward away from Bandylegs.

Xanthea is trotting along with the group, yet is decidedly silent, musing over her own thoughts.

Ekbard overhear this, so says aloud, "and if there is 1000 gp worth of precious objects, and each person can only carry out 100gp worth of treasure before they are unable to walk, do your calculations again girl on that"

    Bandylegs mutters to himself.

'Blasted thief. It appears this quarrel will not be resolved.. tonight, anyways.'

"a devil??! You fought a devil? Wowsers! How come you're all still alive?"

Othegre hears Bandylegs' singing and rides forwards to listen. As the song ends she applauds, crashing her free hand into her shield. Clipclop's whinnies appreciatively.

"While I ride with you I will respect your customs," she says, clearing her throat. What comes out next owes more to enthusiasm than any skill or ear for Melody.

"There was a thief who would not share,
Her friends all cried, she didn't care,
    Compromise, she would not dare,
And saw in time what's fair is fair."
Abruptly she turns to face Elin and adds
    "She died. Screaming."

    Turning back she starts anew:
"Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun OTHEGRE!
    Aaah aaaaah!
    Saviour of the material plane!"

Alexander: True. On the other hand, I fear that if we do not get the God's blood, we run the risk others may still come later. For better or worse, it may be our responsibility to ensure it stays away from the wrong hands. Should the opportunity arise, I would as soon grab it and bring it with us, and protect it ourselves.

Ekbard share the story of the Devil encounter with Othegre, about Askint being us to the study, telling us about our quest, about how the Devil could never break his bindings, and about trying to steal the Devils horns. Then about the ensuing fight where Bandylegs had his spine cracked and was dead and how moy injured the beast, and most of all, how he rode on the beasts back and pulled on its horns.

    Thurmunton Day 1:

The party follows the road until the trees on either side being to give way to open grassland in the early morning.

Clearly Visible from over a mile away is Thurmunton, a small enough village situated about half a mile from the base of a bluff. In the field between the village and the bluff, several carts, caravans and maypoles are set up.

    Vek0ra.jpg

Coming closer a handwoven banner hangs across a temple at the far side of the town:

"Welcome to Thurmunton. Festival of Saint Thurmun LXII"

Just a few yards from the town BandyLegs can see that the houses are made of high quality stone. A well to do village, prospering on supplying Soetrard no doubt, but still there must be a quarry nearby.

Saeros and BandyLegs also notice two buildings larger than the others at the opposite end of town. They're not lived in as there is very little heat visible off them, warehouses then.

The whole party notices that each house has two floors, with the bottom floor functioning as a specialty shop. Certainly this town receives travelers on the road in order to support a village of retainers and specialists.

As they cross the small bridge over the stream and into the town, they notice an inn to their left, "Rothen's Ale House" is written in old Soetrardian on the sign.

A young girl of roughly fifteen years of age runs up and hands them all a necklace of flowers:

"Welcome to the festival of Thurmun o travelers, I hope you're not too tired from your journey. Today we have the blessing, the first parade, the first tournament and a moonlight feast. I hope you join us, for the glory of Saint Thurmun!!" she says the last part with unusual zeal. "Any dwarf or martial fighter committed to their profession may receive our glorious saint's blessing. Praise Thurmun!!"

"No, but I wouldn't put it past anyone in a party where moral has been severly tested after one of its members is to take 4 1/2 times more loot from a quest than everybody else. It must have been from one of the team building lesson I missed as a child."

    Bandylegs turns to the group.

'This looks like it might be more difficult than I expected.'

    Turning back to the girl:

'Hail and well met, young un. Tell me, where can I receive this blessing?'
