I thought Sweetnam did very well overall. He might have done better on Nadolo just befire half time but he doesn't look out of place so far.

I think he has a high ceiling, excited to see some more of him. Some of his passing and assists this season have been top drawer.

Yeah, call them that then. Doesn't make sense though, friendlies does.
It really doesn't. A friendly means an uncompetitive match. One with a meaningless result.

So I think 'county final' is more accurate. Results aren't meaningless.

This is a bizarre afternoon on boards.ie rugby. Can we stop providing oxygen? Please?

    Sexton or ROG?

Friendlies don't have to be meaningless, they're just not on the same level as tournaments. Like the Argentina example I gave, which would you prefer, beating them in every single friendly ever or beating them at the world cup?

I assume that Keatley will be on the bench against Argentina now that Carbery is gone.

Who'll cover full back, I assume Conway but in my opinion he deserves another start on the wing.

Conway might do both, i.e. cover FB from the wing. He started at wing vs South Africa and moved to FB when Rob went off.

To compare to soccer. Rugby Test matches in June and November are like Euro/RWC qualifiers that the soccer team play. The format is different but they have consequences for the RWC.

Ireland have a RWC group with Scotland and Japan because our world ranking was 4th.

If we were 5th we could have got NZ/Eng/Aus and Argentina

If we were 9th we could have ended up with NZ/Eng/Aus and South Africa.

It actually doesn't matter what I think. Or you. It's what the opposition thinks. So getting back to where this started, do you think NZ didn't care enough in Chicago and that's why our kicking was succesful?

But in a RWC match against anyone (apparently) it won't be. Is that your point?

    14 Conway,
    Bench Keatley, Sweetnam.

Plenty of cover for handsome Rob.

Don't soccer friendlies count towards ranking as well? The Irish soccer team would have easier draws if it had a higher ranking.

The world cup is far more important than friendlies, I can't believe you're denying that. Teams show up at their absolute best at world cups, at least try to. This is different to end of season or start of season friendlies.

You'd have to assume Keatley. With the Jackson situation and Carberry potentially out for awhile, it makes the battle for starting Munster 10 shirt pretty interesting, with the carrot of potential Ireland selection on the line as well.

Will be interesting to see who John van Graan considers to be his starting 10 coming into the European games.

Yeah but there is qualifiers too. They are all rolled into one in rugby

There's qualifiers in rugby! It's just that there'd be no point in having all the teams compete in them.

I actually think Conway deserves another go at full back. He's on great form and it's a position up for grabs looking forward.

THats true. I think Keatley has been playing the better of the two this year so will be interesting to see.

Rugby is not some fascist dictatorship, you can call them tests if you want, I can call them friendlies.

I'm not a pure rugby man but I'm allowed an opinion aren't I?

Top 3 on each RWC pool qualifies for the next world cup.

If England had lost to Fiji in 2015 they might have had to go through qualifiers for 2019 depending on bonus points. Or if wales had lost to england and fiji they would have had to qualify. And wales were in that group on the back of a last minute loss to australia in 2012.

Yes so tournaments are more important, like I said.

As I said, you can call them Petunia. But it’s incorrect.

You can have all sorts of opinions, it doesn’t mean they’re all right. I might be of the opinion that scrums are actually called “Big Pushy Heave-Ho Time”, but sometimes opinions are clearly incorrect.

It's not an opinion, I didn't say it was right or wrong, I just call them friendlies.

    Nobody has said otherwise.

You just cant accept that test matches have more importace then you are willing to give them credit for. Unions like IRFU are heavily dependent on these games to fund the provinces too. 60-70% of the money required to fund the pro game here comes from the national team.

    Anyway im out. Goodbye

Grand, as I said, you're wrong. You asked if you're allowed an opinion, I explained. Good luck with it.

Not very adroitly avoiding the question. Could you answer it please?
