Also, why didn't he walk away. They have no power to arrest him or force him to stay put. I'm curious more to see how the group handle that when it happens.

I've looked at a few of the videos and I haven't seen any video where the person walked away. I find this really baffling.

There was about 10 people in the anti paedo group they would of stopped him if he tried to run.

But that's back to the fine line I mentioned. They can't legally stop him using force. That's assault and grounds that could be used to get off the charges in court (or to bring charges against the group).

    Can you elaborate?

They seem fairly sure that by making citizens arrest then they can use reasonable force to detain the suspect.

In both videos I've watched today, they both said this.

I'm not sure if a "citizen's arrest" is even a thing, but I'm absolutely sure these groups have been around for a good while now, so probably have received actual legal advice on this very thing.

You can intimidate people into doing what you want without necessarily laying a finger on them.

There was a documentary about these specific guys on Ch. 4 a couple of years ago. The TV reviewers at the time described the vigilantes and their methods as 'disturbing', 'sinister', 'very troubling', 'chilling'.....absolutely nobody said 'Fair play to them, they're doing society a great service'.

I saw that, If I remember rightly the main guy on it had been abused himself in foster care or something. not sure if it was this group but similar

I'm not against them filming it. I'm not even against them Live streaming it when they are 100% sure but that's the inherent problem. They won't be 100% right all the time.

If they, as they state in the video record it for their and his protection, then there is no need to need to make a big fuss of it by posting it to Facebook. They do it so they can humiliate the person. There is very little proof I'd say if any these videos are a deterrent to others. I again would fear it would makre them more careful and try to hide harder. There is a trial by media angle to this too. The problem is it's such a fine line to walk and they have no powers conferred to them here. I'd hate to see someone like this get off on a technicality.

Also, why didn't he walk away. They have no power to arrest him or force him to stay put. I'm curious more to see how the group handle that when it happens.

They have acted as a 13 year old girl, someone has contacted them, sent them images of themselves and whatever else. Arranges to meet up at a time and location...you'd be nearly 100% sure that is the guy I would have thought.

Agreed that there's alot of self gratification about live streaming, but the faces of these people are being put out there for anyone that watches to recognise.

They do have the power for citizens arrest and they know the law in this regard....well, that's what they say in their videos, but I'm not sure if there is truth behind that. Some of the legal eagles might need to clarify on that.

Adding to the total circus element of it. I imagine when the cops come along, there are only two or three of them. Do the vigilantes think they're up against ISIS or something?

Does the Citizens Arrest thing not apply though? Not that I know anything about it, but don't citizens have the right to hold someone they believe has committed a crime - in this case grooming, until the police arrive?

No point in them walking away, their real identity was unveiled and the cops would find them pretty quickly. It only took a few minutes going by the length of the video for the police to turn up. He knew he was caught and had nowhere to go.

I understand that people want paedophiles to be caught. I understand that they want to help. But this isn't the right way. Even if we move past the fact that they are baiting him and he hasn't actually hurt someone, the correct way to deal with this is by contacting the police and passing on the evidence you have.

There's been one of these groups baiting and luring paedos locally to me. All videoed, then plastered over the local papers, arrested etc.

The local police were one of the forces that turned a blind eye to decades of sex trafficking of girls up until very recently.

Don't blame the groups for videoing one bit. Absolutely no reason to think the police will follow up on any of it without such acts.

I don't want to say too much but if you look on his facebook page under the first pic you will see a comment by a woman more or less suggesting that he has done to quote "things" in the past with I can only guess means with young girls or women

You wouldn't dare do a runner knowing it's being streamed live. Especially since he was trying to feign ignorance and plead his innocence. Running would be an admission of guilt. Knowing you're being streamed live to the world would have you hyper aware of your actions and so you'd be as submissive as possible and just do what they say for your own sake.
There was a moment in the footage where I thought he was going to try and do something with his phone though.

That's what I was thinking. Why would you engage with strangers that approach you on the street . I'd have thought they'd try to walk away and at the very least refuse to answer them. He knows they know what he's at so it's not like he's going to improve his situation.

The hunter sounds stupid, bull about in ur country is it law.cant stand him, just hand it over to the cops and stop looking for the attention and glory

The main guy talking has serious delusions of grandeur, dropping the name of his group over and over throughout the video. At one stage i was was waiting for him to start shilling merch.

No question this guy is guilty of disgusting behaviour but the these i imagine the only time these vigilante groups get this excited is when they find 20 pound note down the back of the couch or when they're taking part in call out video's.

    Scauldy bunch.

Panic? Shock maybe. Probably not thinking straight. Instead thinking what happens to their sort inside.

While this might ruin his life, I think if I was working in RTE I'd like to know if the guy sitting beside me/working in the same office/guy you chat to at the coffee station every morning is up to this kind of thing.

You'd only want to know that if you worked at RTE?

Yeah describing themselves as "Peadophile Hunters" .. I wonder what his actual profession is ? if he even has one.

I just saw the comment and it's very strangely worded. I don't really know what she was trying to say.

I can't help thinking this will seriously unravel some day, such as a suspect running away and being knocked down by a car or responding with violence to being confronted. This vigilante phenomenon is very recent but one horrible incident could bring the shutters down on it.

I would guess panic too. He starts off by saying something about wanting to be a father figure and then just drops it when they start mentioning pictures.

    I see it now.

"I know you've had things with X, y and z and others in the past but 13 year old is too much"

    Sounds more like affairs maybe.

His wife is a beautiful Portuguese woman.
He must be quite the charmer cos he doesn't seem very attractive, although his job is probably well paid

This is it. Probably some unemployable scrote who voted for Brexit.

Also seemed to take distinct pleasure in the fact that the perp had something of a "high profile" job.

I think Spanish Eyes is referring to all the stuff coming out in the media at the moment primarily about men in power so i understand her comments.

You can't blame her being annoyed, it just seems to be everywhere at the moment and its not all about underage kids of course but most of the stuff is related to young women when they were starting out in their careers and vulnerable to a degree.

    It's almost comical.

An entree of this guy attempting to commit a crime against a child with a side order of his wife is probably a gold digger.

    You couldn't make it up.
