Just seen a really strange story on the 9 0 clock news re a man arrested in Leeds. RTÉ issues a statement saying that the man worked for them.... the way it was broadcast was really strange.... was thinking it might be one of their top stars. Doubt they would issue a statement if it was the average workers... anyone else notice this? Any ideas??

Thought the exact same, but no idea who they're talking about. Seemed very clandestine I thought.

    From the Indo...

An employee of RTE has been charged in the UK with attempting to engage in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl.

The man traveled to Leeds on Saturday where he was confronted by a group of people who had created a fake online profile of a 13-year-old girl.

They alerted police and he was arrested and taken into custody.

After questioning police charged him with encouraging a girl to engage in sexual activity.
He will remain in custody overnight and will appear before Leeds Magistrates court tomorrow morning to be formally charged.

    Wouldn't be a star

Low level of say but they would need to release a statement and evening time would have less reach

Clearly just some functionary, not a fan of so called vigilante groups trumpting thier sting as they risk undermining a good case

so ther ewas no 13 year old girl?

No it was entrapment, should be a crime.

No it was entrapment, should be a crime.

Sting operations are frequently used to net paedophiles.

I have no sympathy for any one caught like this. The right thing was done - he was handed over to the police...

It's not entrapment if the peadophile contacts the decoy (13 year old) first. Which is how it plays out 9 times out of 10 in these things

Named in many media as Kieran Creaven, racing editor.

    LeedsExposurePage on FB.
This guy has 54 FB friends which seem all to be teenage girls most underaged on his fake FB profile. Great to see him caught. He is also 54 years old.

See that. On the Irish Mirror.

Fairly high up on the editing / producing side.

This isn't a police sting to catch a known/suspected pedo. This is deliberate entrapment with a fake person designed to lure someone into a place they might not otherwise go.
Look I think he's better off caught if he's a proper predator but not in this type of way.

How do you prove a case like that in court? Can you be charged with committing a crime against a 'victim' who doesn't exist ?

Not for us to worry about how it is proved or otherwise is it? A bit of digging in his past by the relevant authorities should be enlightening.

I have heard of special tech groups (non police) setting up such sting operations and arrests by the police then been made.

The case is straightforward - which is intent.

Just watched some of the video on their Facebook page, that moment when the realisation kicks in on screen, your life is over bud.

I really can't see why people have issues with the approach these guys had to catching him, seems like a good way to stop someone before they start if you get me.

How do you know he did not willingly do so? What's with the "lure (him) into a place (he) might not otherwise go"?

Doesn't seem anyone was forcing him to visit an underage girl does it?

Dark Justice was given permission to keep doing this kind of work online in the UK, about half of all people they catch are convicted.

It's all a bit minority report for me it needs to be done but I'd much prefer if it was the police doing it rather than vigilanties. I've seen a mob get out of control on an innocent person and it was nothing short of barbaric.

What's the age where it goes from being a paedo to underage sex in law? Presumably 13 If that's the age they use for the fake girl , to get them for the more serious crime?

It's all assumptions by us here but I meant was he coersced to visit leeds, suppose regardless of who said what and how it happened he was gone wrong the minute he engaged with her at all. No harm done catching him.

Once they don't descend into vigilantism, and they don't "guess" or have mistaken identities, then I think its fine.

This guy seems a real creep - have a look at "Jimi Cee" profile on Facebook. (his fake profile)

Though I don't see why the rte angle is pushed as he didn't use that and nor was he on duty - just a plain dirty teen fiddler.
