A quote from Rob Kearney in today's Indo should wake Connachta up quicker than a dose of intravenous coffee :D
I've learnt a lot over the years that you can't look too far ahead; you can pick up injuries any time that can dictate your immediate future. But I'm massively hungry to play in this team and my ambitions are firmly on going to the next World Cup.

I thought it better that he hear it here among friends than on his own on the Indo site.

Did we use Bundee at all in attack? We'll likely incorporate some moves involving him offloading in contact and dear BOD it's going to be glorious. I hope we keep them in the back pocket for Twickenham.

He threw a couple of nice passes but generally didn't see much possession - he was running decoy lines a fair bit, when Sexton made his wraparound break in the first half some of that space was created by Aki's run. If he plays this weekend I'd imagine we'll see a bit more of him involved directly in attack.

Which of the nominated players would you drop for him?

I think it's between Folau and Farrell. Did Folau break Rokocoko's record for most tries in a calendar year?

Probably Itoje, but can't be having 5 backs there.

I thought that our ability to get the ball wide quickly was 100% related to Bundee's distribution skills. He has much better hands than Henshaw and is more composed in heavy traffic.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but the first thing I look for in a FB is someone who has good positional sense, commands the air, can kick and can organise a back three. To me Kearney ticks all those boxes still. I'm not exactly a member of his fan club but I thought he had a decent game on Sat. He was outshone by Conway and Stockdale in attack but maybe that's not Kearney's job.

Definitely can't have 5 backs! Itoje has been the best forward around this year, especially since Rettallick has had to take a break. Barrett and Ioane have had some quietish games at test level this year but so has Murray. I don't remember him being outstanding during the 6 Nations. Was he the best number 9 in the tournament?

Yeah, training. With Ryan out, you need a prop that can oppose either side of the scrum, I would read no more into it than that.

Best effort at an implode Neil Francis head team:

    Bent
    Herring
    Ah You
    Roux
    Kleyn
    Jordi Murphy
    Van Der Flier
    Heaslip
    Gibson Parke
    Bleyendaal
    Ludik
    Aki
    Payne
    Lowe
    Carberry

Edit: I actually forgot about Stander. :/

Yeah he was good especially against France but then he had that stinger against Wales and obviously didn't feature against England then.

I thought it was harsh not to be nominated but I don't think he's world player of the year either

Change your loose forward trio to Diack, Heenan and Stander and BOOM goes Neil Francis' head :D

John Ryan is expected to be fit for Argentina next weekend.
James Ryan and Dave Kilcoyne have "bangs" and both sat out training today.

Ah, yes. I knew I was fudging a bit with that trio.

Michael Bent called up per Cian Tracey.

Strange to omit someone like Bealham or Archer if there's a chance Bent will be used on the bench.

Edit: It appears he is just cover. Ok then.

Bent is a better scrummager than both.

Bent is also 32 in April. It's a bit of a waste if he's used but it appears he's only in camp to make up numbers.

Someone like Bealham would surely benefit more if there's playing time available.

What about tackling? Kearney has been poor for years at that. He made several errors last Saturday too.

My assumption is that since Ryan and Kilcoyne have both been reported with minor injuries and are in restricted training both due back very shortly Bent will be moving around and scrummaging in different positions depending on need.

Also maybe it's a short notice call up for training only and Bealham/archer are both enjoying their province's week off while Bent is in Dublin. Joe gets a phone call at 9am this morning Kilcoyne and Ryan are sitting out. He rings Bealham, he is on a day trip to some godforsaken island off the west coast or doesn't answer his phone, he rings bent 'when can you be in Carton', Bent's response is that he has no plans and can get in his car straight away.

Who are the fit THs in the squad? Porter and Furlong right?

Yeah Porter and Furlong. McGrath and Healy at loosehead. Kilcoyne and Ryan both have minor injuries and are sitting out today.

Bent would play then right? Porter starts. I doubt they'll use Furlong.

Tackling stats for full backs are always poor. They don't get to tackle often and when they do it's usually a one on one. It also usually means somebody else has missed a tackle first.

Why do you say that? I would absolutely hate to see Furlong risked against Fiji just to fill out a 23, I hope to jaaaaysus that Bent is not just there to make up numbers in training.

Turning 32 in April means he'll be 33 at the time of the next RWC. He will still be a viable candidate in the event of a TH crisis.

Bealham, I'm really not sure about. If Herbst turns out to be decent (and can stay fit) and Porter develops, Bealham is going to have to up his game, but sure he's only a chisler.

What's the extent of Ryan's injuries. I thought it was just a bang and would take it easy today and return to training tomorrow.
