Unboxing video of the 5t. Does the 5t merit it's own thread at this stage?

Wow, that fella just did his last pre-release review!
Thanks for sharing the link, dying to see how the camera works in low light on the 5T, will be the deal breaker whether to buy it or the Galaxy S8.
The fingerprint sensor is placed much better than on the S8 and looks to be pretty much instantaneous from the video.

I suppose we should have a 5T thread by now.

I'd be a little annoyed seeing the 5T if I bought the 5. The 5T looks like what the 5 should've been and not just a "specced up" T version.

Sure it was same last year with the 3/3t. And regarding the threads last year was just re titled I don't get need for a new thread for this either.

The 3 had some issues that the 3t sorted. The 5t is a different form factor bit little else has changed. I'm kinda sorry I didn't wait for the t.. it's always the more polished product but then the next version only 6 months away and it will probably be a hardware upgrade

The 3t was just a specs upgrade. This is a new screen.

The 5 was a 2015 phone (with great specs) released in 2017. The 5t is a 2017 phone.

Sure HTC are doing the same with the U11+

Not quite. The 3 had overheating issues and battery issues that were fixed in the 3t. There are no major issues with the 5.. I'm not sure fingerprint sensor on the back of phones is as good as the front. Extra screen is nice but not much different to the 5 otherwise

My point was the screen is always the biggest design change with major phone releases. People will want that lovely 18:9 less bezel screen a lot more than they'd have wanted the extra RAM or dual camera. The 5 should've been the major design iteration and instead people are getting it six months later in the 5T.

    Me neither!
Think the whole front being a screen is fcuking awful looking :D

I wouldn't like the finger print at the back. Means when my phone is on my desk, I need to pick it up or enter my code to view a notification (such a first world problem ha).

Same here. Never a fan of it at the back, neither are Apple since they persevered with the gamble of face recognition for the iPhone X.

Looks like the video has been pulled down. Watched it earlier myself. You would wonder how dense you would have to be making the ''mistake'' or dropping your first look before it's even been announced...

On a side note: why is it reviews are almost always by people who don't have passion for the tech they review? or come across like understanding very little about it? ... probably wishing it was a crapple phone so they don't have to even try and just say how 'courageous' they are to invented everything to everyone. . .

What would you recommend for a panorama app? I use the camera a lot for work and taking panorama shots on a site etc. However since i upgraded from a HTC I cant use the pano function anymore as its beyond sh**e on the 3T I have.

Other than that (and a generally slightly below par camera overall) its a good phone.

You can try the Google Cardboard camera or this port of the Google Pixel camera software: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-customization-raw-support/

Altenatively, just take several images and use an image stitcher afterwards - not sure which ones are best.

I did take a panorama after the most recent update for the OP5 during the week and it seemed to be improved over the last time but I don't know if that was just down to the scene I was taking, a steadier hand, the Moon being in conjunction with Venus or an actual improvement in the camera software. YMMV with all the above :)

I thought this would be an issue for me after switching to the Note 8, coming from my previous 3 devices have FPS on the front.

Turns out I use smart lock anyway, so I just need to swipe up to unlock when I'm connected to work WiFi :)

How does that work? Once connected to work WiFi you just swipe up? Doesn't seem very secure to be honest, not that I don't trust my work mates.

Standard android feature. I can have it so you don't need security when in certain locations or connected to certain devices. Usually under Settings > Security > Smart Lock.

I'd never be leaving my phone lying around where workmates can get at it anyway.

Also works with any Bluetooth device. I have it set that if it's near my pebble watch, so it's unlocked but will lock to finger print if I leave it behind.... Or can lock it from my watch if I'm within range but can't get to it for whatever reason.

Using specific wifi networks is not a option of smart lock. Least the Google one anyway, unless Samsung have done there own tweaking.

Ya, it's not the network...I've just set location. It's on Smart Lock when it's connected to my Smart Watch as well.

Got on to support yesterday, they advised a full factory reset and provided a link for the previous firmware.

Got my BT issues sorted anyway without a full factory reset.
Had to unpair-re-pair a few times and also get rid of Android Auto for a while as that seemed to be causing issues.

On the 5T release, I'm a bit miffed over that one, I had ordered a 5 literally 2 days before the 5T was announced.

However in fairness my 5 is a great phone and I'm happy with it.
Dunno if i'd bother upgrading just now.

These things move so fast now, there's no point in trying to keep up with the very latest unless you have money to burn. You have a good fast phone. Wait 12-18 months and you'll be thankful that you didn't bother upgrading again so soon for questionable gains.

So far....One Plus are better than other phone manufacturers because they listen to their users and they wanted to create the best phone by listening to their users bla bla bla beta testing.
