Is a Lien forever or just for Xmas?

I was of the impression that a lien is forevah unless explicitly time limited.

situation: Lease vehicles get repossessed and lien placed on property for the remainder.

Doesn't matter for my bloodless stone acquaintance who will be forced to transsfer the property shortly so just enquiring rather than looking for legal advice.

Lien
In general terms, a lien is a possessory security, whereby somebody already has possession of a chattel and retains possession of that chattel until such time as he is paid. This might happen when somebody hands in his car to be serviced by a mechanic but does not pay the mechanic's bill, for example. The mechanic simply holds on to the car until his bill is paid.

Lease
Leased vehicles are held under lease, subject to terms and conditions. The owner does not hold on to possession. Rather, it is the lessee who takes possession of the leased vehicle from the owner. Vehicle leases may arise where companies lease vehicles, for example.

Debt
Where somebody owes money. Like their mobile phone bill.

I don't know why a lien is compared to a lease, in the context of a link (now deleted) to a thread where somebody has received a solicitor's letter in relation to an unpaid debt.
