Do you pay for any paywalled news? It would be nice to think the people who put them up are able to keep their heads above the water as a result and that they wouldn't be in a permanent downward terminal spiral towards the dole queue but I wonder how many people actually subscribe.

Pay for news, I'll have to check the Daily Mails view on that.

Open in incognito bypasses some of them.

Or maybe theyre playing a double bluff and the fake news is actually real. They've manipulated you into ignoring the news. Or have they?

I think older people might, or city workers who subscribe to the Financial Times

I have never done, there are too many news sources out there.

Pay for the Times and Sunday Times digital editions. In fairness that was as much to do with their subscription offers of an iPad and a Bose speaker as much as anything else. However I find their Irish content great and their sport too - especially as they have all Premier League highlights.

No, I pay for my daily paper but will not pay to read news online. Radio and TV fill the gaps from the papers.

But what does that even mean today? Is it that they print analysis and opinions that you agree with?

The news is no longer a commodity in itself. It is a given. The revenue model is about the ads and not consumer subscriptions. Sadly that yields a race to the bottom with clickbait AND another disaster with mainstream publications slanting everything to a certain narrative e.g. Irish Times/liberal left, Fox News/pro-corporate right-wing.

Buy print media. Chuckle at the notice at the bottom of the Guardian page.

I pay for Inkl which allows me to bypass paywalls on stories I want to see. I used to pay for NYT online, but I didn't get the use out of it to be honest.

Not at the moment (enough good ones are still free) but I support the principle of paying for good journalism. The hassle of signing up for each individual site is a big dis-incentive though.

There are moves afoot I believe to provide a standard news site payment method (sort of like paypal). For the paid news model, this is essential I think.

Once your credit card details are stored - it should then just be one mouse click to pay for & read your chosen article on any (or most) news sites.

The way I’d operate in future is 1)use free sites as now plus 2)pay a regular subscription on a small number of reliable sites plus 3)on other news sites, ideally I’d prefer to pay a proportionate price per article i.e. in proportion to say a print newspaper for €2.50 that has 50 articles.

    Exact same with me.

If I could guarantee impartial news, I'd pay for it but everything is filtered one way or another so no matter how much you might believe the accuracy of some media outlets, they are going to put their own spin on everything and I'm not paying for that.

I prefer the Daily Mail online, as it's not paywalled
