Distributor cap and rotor colour VW Polo 97

hi im going changing my distributor cap and rotor on my vw polo 97 1.0 engine code AER as the rotor is burnt and the car lacks power anyone know what color cap i should get as im told its orange but the one thats on it is black and whats the diffrence between the two colors thanks

There may be no difference between the two colours - it could simply be that different manufacturers make them in different colours.

If you call your nearest main dealer and give them your VIN/registration number they'll get the correct parts. VW parts for a vehicle of that age may not be too expensive and at least you'll be sure you have the correct parts.

That said, there are two makes of distributor for an AER engine: Bosch and Marelli. This may be important if you decide to source them form somewhere other than a VW dealer. The manufacturer should be stamped on the distributor body.
