Schutte will be a huge loss if he doesn't play but they still have treacy, cronin and of course o callaghan, there's talk that cuala aren't as good as they were but with the experience they have and playing at home it'll be very tough but if the boro get a good start they'll fancy their chances

Hard I suppose to judge both finals against one another given the gale that was in Parnell and pretty negative tactics on both sides, compared to a very enjoyable open game in Kilkenny. Won't be open today although nice day for it and wind won't be a factor. Word still is that Mark Schutte is out.

Hopefully they don't play a sweeper. Boro dropped a man back for a lot of the second half last week as well. Great potential in the match today if both teams are playing positive hurling.

King Con has Evan Cody in huge trouble already.

I'd love nothing more for Con O'Callaghan to lose his place in the Dublin football side.

Only reason is because he's such a good hurler. Reminds me so much of Joe Canning in his younger years.

    Destroying Cody and Buckley together

    Cody so far....

Has to come meet Callaghan there instead of sitting on the edge of the square

Now Buckley is on Con and he manages to find a way to lose him. Ridiculous talent

Tell you what though, Martin Gaffney is hurling well for the Boro

    Ref riding the boro here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

I would have to say Cuala look fitter and faster and tighter stick work in some areas, but the ref is quick to blow the whistle for some of the Cuala frees. Not so fast for Dicksboro frees.
If Dicksboro can manufacture a goal they can get back into this game.

There have been some fair dodgy decisions here from the ref.

The crowd booing the ref coming off the pitch tells you how bad of a game he is having.
It’s like he has mind made up to award Cuala the handy frees and screw Dicksboro.

Both teams have a Shane Stapleton and an Oisín Gough! That must be pretty unique.

Con makes Buckley look very slow. Can't handle him at all

Huge gulf in class between the teams.

    All over now.

Con makes everyone look slow, including the entire Mayo full back and half back lines....287 of whom just won All Stars.

The Kilkenny Oisin Gough looks good. He could improve with a bit of Senior training behind him. Good wrists.

Begs the question if Dublin hurling team could get a forward line of Ciaran Kilkenny, D Connolly, Mark Schutte, D Sutcliffe, Con o Callaghan, Cormac Costello. They would be serious all Ireland contenders.

Buckley is probably Kilkennys best hurler and he got destroyed in all departments by o Callaghan today

I thought the kerry man o connell got on a lot of ball but callaghan the main difference today he has so much pace he'll cause any team trouble especially at club level.
Cuala fully deserving winners but I expected a better showing and moving buckley back didn't help although the boro had no1 else to mark him.Cuala are the benchmark and the boro are young hopefully they can learn from this, another early exit for kilkenny senior club is dissapointing

O callaghan is top class. Must be horrible to defend against when he gets the ball and you know he's going to run straight at you.

Football always going to be our downfall. Always said that until Dublin club hurling improved county team was going to be second rate. Cuala have set the bar and SHC was great contest so hopefully. Gilroy might put manners on some of them!

Chap of 87 who is Dicksboro lives down road from me so we shall have a good talk tomorrow! Not sure whether he got over to the park.

Con would trouble any full back in ireland club or county. Must be frustrating for Pat Gilroy knowing he won’t get access to him or other dual players.

Dicksboro keeping up the ongoing trend of Kilkenny Senior champs being dumped out of Leinster championship. We are in a very bad place. Hasn't been this bleak since mid nineties.
When was the last time a Kilkenny player has won young player of the year?

Cha won in 2006 and Noel Hickey in 2000.

Its been over 10 years since a kk player won young player of year. That's shocking

Well you have to take the fact that we probably had the best ever team from 2006 to 2010 which didnt really have any under 21s who were nailed on regulars on the senior team, that stopped the likes of Richie and Tj from winning it. We have only won 2 in total in the 22 years.

It's not shocking at all. In fact, it's no great barometer of All Ireland or individual future success. Kilkenny have won 10 of the last 17 senior hurlers of the year. And obviously, confirmed via your comment above, they achieved that without any one of those 10 players winning young hurler of the year.

Winning young hurler of the year is a fantastic achievement, but not winning it rules you out of nothing.

It's not really its evidence that it was etremely hard to break into the KK senior team without serving your aprentiship in the panel.

Your clutching at straws if thats the stat that you are using to depict the demise of KK.

They have been in 4 of the last 10 Minor Al finals which is the joint best record with Tipp for teams who have to come through a provincial championship and KK schools have had a great record in the same period.

I agree with all ye responses. It was extremely hard for u21 players to break onto that team. However, when was the last underage Kilkenny player that everyone was really excited about. TJ and R. Hogan were the last two in my opinion. Tipp on the other hand have had John McGrath, John o Dwyer and there is another promising McGrath on the way. All players in the attacking half. Galway have Jack Canning coming through who looks the real deal. WHO DO WE HAVE.

Richie Leahey will establish himself this year and I would expect big things from Adrian Mullen over the next few years, there was a Ryan chap in the fullforward line for the minors two years ago who looked really good.

PS Brian McGrath is a back and imo will struggle at the top level, too slow unfortuantely.
