Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just the 14 tries for NZ v Scotland in another one-sided affair

Kiwis were accused of disrespect for fielding a weakened team against Scotland, imagine the damage with a full strength team.

Tonga beat Samoa 32-18. The result never really looked in any doubt.

Reminder that England v Lebanon about to start on BBC 2

Comfortable but unconvincing from England. Still, first win on the board.

Huge game for Ireland tomorrow morning, if they can be close (within 6 points) to PNG with 20 minutes to go i think they could win it. My reasoning is the sheer physical size of them, they'll end out of steam before the finish.

    We can hope anyway.

Bookies have PNG by 16. Well they were wrong last week so fingers crossed!

The conditions will be very tough. I just hope the team can be in the contest and give a good account of themselves. Mark Aston's gameplan worked a treat against Italy and I gather he has worked with some of the PNG players at Sheffield so hopefully he has a nice plan in store. It should be a great occasion. I just hope I'm awake for it!

Great start. Not the clearest cut try you'll ever see but it's what comes up on that board that counts.

Ireland just trying to force it a bit too much when they get down their end.

I was thinking the same thing. So many errors from both sides in that half but they look much more threatening. We will need to produce the best possible form and hope they continue to mess up if we are to have any chance of success but I can't see that happening.

Ireland's kicking was pretty good that half, better than England yesterday anyway.

They need to keep it tight for the start off the second half, some effort by them so far anyway considering Wales were 26 nil down at ht when they played them.

Whatever happens in the final stages this has been a hell of an effort from Ireland. Some heroic defending at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Well that's that. Pity it ended that way. :(

I know we can sometimes get sick of the gallant losers tag but that really was a bloody good effort against a team that considers that their national game and who were playing on their own patch. Wales got smashed 50-6 and there were plenty tipping a similar outcome for ourselves. Instead we made a real good go of it and weren't too far away from nicking it. I'm proud of the team for that effort. Hopefully they have earned a few new fans of the sport in the country.

Ireland would give anyone in Europe and tier 2 sides a good game if they could just get the handling errors down a bit. Play anywhere near how they have first two games and they should beat Wales.

Going to be another long 80 minutes for Wales today I fear. Fiji with an early lead.

    Edit: all square again.

Edit again: Fiji back in front!

Not a league fan but finding it impossible to find any match report on any Irish media. Very poor coverage for an Ireland team competing at a world cup.
But websites like the42 will be all over some irrelevant NFL story as soon as it breaks. Priorities like.

I agree, it's a shame but fair play to Rte online, they have been reporting on Ireland. League gets woefully under reported in England too outside of the North.

Danny Brough and a couple of other Scotland players are being sent home. They were too drunk to be allowed to fly.

    Pretty crap from him imo.

    In other news
Shame the way the tournament is structured means Ireland have no chance of qualifying for quarters now (let's be honest, the USA couldn't win a raffle in PNG) and Scotland just need to beat Samoa (which they won't) to qualify.

Looks like New Zealand vs Tonga and Wales vs Ireland will be the most competitive games this weekend. Hope to see the Irish team finish on a high with a solid victory. That would make this a positive tournament.

Kiwis v Tonga should be very close, shame its on so early. Paddy Power have New Zealand heavy, heavy favourites 1/4. Tonga 13/5. Think Kiwis probably will win but I'd definitely have a couple of euro on Tonga at that price, I think they are way off with their odds.

I'd hope if Ireland play anywhere near like they did the first two games they'd have too much for Wales. Again, I think Paddy Power is a mile off though. Wales 14/1 and Ireland 1/50!!

Some effort by Scotland, great performance with understrength team, shame they couldn't hang on for the win. Samoa didn't win a game and get through to the quarterfinals. Hmmm.
