“The” Queen. Who the fucκ is that?

    It really annoys me when Irish people say THE Queen when referring to QEII. She’s A Queen, not THE Queen.

    If I said the king, to whom would I be referring? King Harald of Norway? King Gustav of Sweden? The king of Spain? King Wilhelm-Alexander of the Netherlands? There’s more than one King. So saying “the” king wouldn’t make sense without context.

    Similarly there’s more than one queen in the world. When someone’s uses “ The Queen” in a sentence I always say “which one?”.

    That’s west brits for you.

    I find it irritating as well, it's like there's some prevailing notion that the U.K, particularly London is the centre of the universe.

    A lot of normal countries ban the use of titles of nobility. If QEII comes here she should be referred to as Elizabeth or Mrs Saxe-Coburg.

    I’d never degrade myself to using your majesty or sir or madam to another person.

    I will however, always respect titles that people have earned through hard work or devotion such as Dr., Prof., Father, Imam, Sister etc.

    She's the most famous Queen (apart from Elton maybe) and so therefore see no issues with people referring to her as the Queen.

    Why would you call her Mrs Saxe-Coburg?
    Prince Phillips family name is Mountbatten so if you want to call her Mrs anything it'd be Mrs Mountbatten.

    You don't call a married woman by her maiden name even if you're rude enough to insist on using surnames at all.

    Is Queen the same in all languages? Because if not then she is The Queen. The Koningin would be for the Dutch etc

    Depends on who does the refering. I've Dutch friends who refer to the king every now and again, but I don't moan at them for not specifying which king they're refering to.

    Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    UK citizens refer to her as the Queen because ...er...that’s who she is to them.
    We share so much with them back and forth that it would be unnecessarily fussy to keep specifying Queen of England etc on the odd occasion that she is mentioned in passing.
    It would be like persistently referring to Donald Trump POTUS, instead of just saying President Trump or even just Trump or Obama.
    Pedantic I think is the word.

    Selective quoting there. Banned for Austrians within Austria. The don't ban calling a royal of another country by their title.

    No, probably not.
    Trying here to think of a better analogy.
    It just seems correct to assume that a reference to the Queen stipulates the current Queen of England and not some other Queen.
    I know when the Queen is mentioned in the US they assume it is the Queen of England.
    She’s very old and very famous I suppose.
    Ok if I say Leo who do you assume I’m referring too?
