Round junction boxes for lightning circuits

    Hi,

    Would anyone know if any of the electrical suppliers in Dublin sell round 5a junction boxes for lightning circuits, like the ones for socket circuits but 5amp instead of 20/30amp?
    All I can find are block connectors with separate square enclosures but I would rather use round ones.

    Or, can I use 20amp socket circuit boxes in lightning circuit???

    I understand that my pendant light fixture is junction box but I am installing Ikea lights in 3 rooms and those must be wired from junction box if I understand this correctly, I dont see how ikea light could serve as a junction box like pendant fixture. Please feel free to correct me if you think this is wrong.

    I have used an old fashioned smaller ceiling rose and connected the IKEA lights to that. The IKEA fitting fits over it. (Not an electrician)

    Interesting idea thanks, going to see if ikea light will fit over pendant base. The old fashioned small ones you are talking about arent earthed right?

    Haven't a clue. The IKEA lights I got weren't earthed either way.

    20a is the maximum the box can handle if you use less that wont matter.

    But without sounding rude I hate to be the one to question your ability but I have to bring it up electricity is dangerous and are you competent working with it if you don't understand ratings?

    Thank you for your concern and I dont think you are being rude at all, I personally appreciate any advice or critique given good or bad and will always listen to what others have to say.

    I understand how dangerous electricity is and I know how to disconnect(and lock) a circuit I am working on at the supply board(plus elcb). I understand that amp rating is the max box can handle and I understand that higher rating box than a circuit can be used but lower shouldn't however I was told(and read it too) that 5a box is ok being only 1a lower. I was doubting myself hence the above post. However I am not going to use that now, will be using 20a 4 terminal jb for easier access as the cables are twin and earth.

    My only confusion right now are the other 2 ikea led lights for bedrooms, one for the kitchen I understand- its base is metal which is earthed and has earth connection provided and I know how to connect it to a switch in JB. However 2 other ikea fixings are plastic (led, only black and white wires) and they don't have earth connection provided. What do I do with extra earth wire if I use twin and earth to connect those fixings to jb? Or should I use single core wires between ikea base and jb? Thanks

    well not being politically correct here but if you have a set of brown and blue and your putting it on to a metal base Ive never seen an earth on those The mentality is that there is nothing to be earthed as its on the ceiling.

    Anything metal must have earth.
