Green/blue/black?

My Galway born parents used to say, "Blue and Green, ne'r should be seen on an Irish Colleen" My girls from all over the country say it should be black and green, Is the blue/green specific to the west or does someone have it wrong?

There is one saying "Red and green should never be seen except on the dress of an Irish queen"
Another is "Blue and green should not be seen"

I sent a painting of a whale to the Den when I was a kid, and it was shown live on TV. I was made up, until D'Arcy said, "Blue and Green should never be seen."
