Is it me or is it the most shapeless, unflattering police uniform that looks like something you'd see on a building site?

I was in town today (Dublin) and passed 2 Gards from the armed support unit apprehending 2 thugs on Dame Street, and i was actually struck by how well they looked in their uniforms.

The armed support units uniform is most definitely streets ahead of the regular Gards uniform.

Depends on the rank. I wouldn't want to piss off these lads.

Is that a thing? The only female Garda I've ever seen have had trousers and big clunky shoes.

Unfortunately I feel the uniform needs to be updated for sure , along with the attitude, and the way ‘many’ Garda talk towards law abiding citizens.. That’s for another thread perhaps though.

those guys are the rank of garda or specifically detective garda in the ERU

    Their customer service is appaling

I like to be addressed as "Sir" when I'm being arrested like they do in the UK

It's the little things that matter

It's yer man outside the GPO a detective?

    Not your ornery onager

    I'll explain ,
The man in the Garda uniform outside the GPO is a Garda like the other two with the guns etc , so therefore they all are part of an Garda Siochana and all have the same salary and rank structure.

There's more than a touch of the glorified traffic warden about it alright.

Not really, afaik. Don't detectives earn more, whether by extra allowances or salary?

    Not your ornery onager

    Law abiding?

    In your dreams.

It’s the oversized luminous jackets that let the whole thing down they look like lollipop ladies with them on.

If they’re just in the standard uniform without those stupid jackets, they look fine.

I have seen police uniforms from around the world and I considered them to be nothing special.

Saw numerous police in Lisbon recently whose uniforms looked particularly ill-fitting and dirty. The policemen were unshaven and some of them were smoking. It just didn't look right.

No , paid according to years served.

“One size fits no one” is how they manage to have every garda looking like they slept for a week in their uniform.

It really is the worst ill fitting uniform I have ever seen. Police in other countries look much more professional in proper fitting decent uniform.

Everything is always great in other counties according to some people!
