Some serious self loathing on this thread. To anyone who said “us” or “humans”, cop yourselves on. What humankind has achieved in its short time is incredible. If you disagree, cut the self loathing cliches and tell me a race/species that has achieved/evolved more.

I’d say you’re some craic at parties.

    Clowns.

    This ^^.
Finally people are accepting climate change (not that enough is being done), but overpopulation people just don't wanna know.
It's very difficult for humans to see past their own lifetime and their own desires - we are so selfish.
Ironically the people having the most kids have the most investment yet care the least.

Ballot Act 1872. Never let the fúckers know which way you're voting keep them guessing until the end.
OJ jumping in the Bronco, directly led to the Kardashians.

It also led to the Wimmin Voting. I joke, I joke.

Not sure mother Earth has ever made mistakes.

Just the people that live on it.

I'll agree with David and say plastic. Or over consumption and the culture of planned obsolescence and disposability. Plastic has a place, a limited place. And it can be made from truly biodegradable materials now, but not in enough forms to keep up with the unnecessary demand for all things dsposable. Waste of time telling people, though. Most people can't see beyond their latest IPhone.

We are but a blip on the history of the earth.
Dinosaurs of different types lived and evolved on earth for a couple of hundred million years.

Humans have only been around for a few hundred thousand (counting other humanoid types) and only technologically evolved for a few thousand (counting iron age onwards)

We could easily be wiped out in the next 50 years as antibiotics are running out and some worldwide epidemic is long overdue.
Human population is becoming an issue.
Environmental issues causing rising sea water which reduces the available farmland for the rising population.
Environmental issues causing death of bees and flying insects.
Environmental issues causing a massive decline in the number of wold species in existence.

we are basically just stockpiling stuff thats going to kill us.

Over population is almost entirely caused by the poorest countries in the world. Almost all of 1st world countries are increasing at barely above replacement rate and in the next 50 years we are likely to see a population decline in the 1st world. While there will be a massive population boom in many of the poorest nations.

The big mistake was coming down from the trees in the first place, and some say that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans.

Well I'm not going back to the ocean, I cant stand jellyfish

Religion and borders nothing but trouble,
Religion was made for power and to control of people and have caused more wars than anything on the planet

The excesses in the wrong things (which seemed great for people then such as cars, oil and even asbestos (sheeting and roofing for buildings, insulation, car-brake linings) and the deficits in charity, community and empathy.
For Ireland, adopting the same system after getting rid of the 'foreigner'. As the TD and Pete Townshend said the 'new boss, same as the old boss'
Now don't I feel good for saying that

So, therefore, birth control is a good idea.

    Plantations of Ulster

I'll see your Plantations of Ulster and raise you a European Colonisation of the New World. Millions displaced, wiped out by disease or brutality, or enslaved. Makes the Plantations look like a walk in the park.

I was going to say the same but then I realised that the Americans/Australians have made some good TV over the years so would have been hypocritical for me to say that.

Those Nespresso capsules (And their clones/tasimo/whatever). All individually wrapped. All non-recyclable. In this day and age it's disgusting.

Nespresso shops will take them off you for free to recycle.

Putting lead in petrol must be considered a big mistake.

That is true we have evolved more than anything else,
We have done some amazing stuff we really have medicine being one of them , but that doesn't mean there isn't things we could not have done better which is exactly what the OP is asking ?
The fact we are  so evolved we should be able to look at our mistakes to not just say we done great ladfs keep going the way we are, .

The Earth doesn't make mistakes... We would want to be a little careful as it has a tendency to restore equilibrium.

Our CO2 output could lead to a few decades of civilisation destroying mega storms that would take it back to medieval levels if we don't cop on!

It's one of those systems you can likely only push so far before it swings back on top of you.

The problem is as more jobs become autonomous there's nowhere for people to work, I've witnessed this in my own industry over the last 20 years. There's 25% of the workforce left, machine's have taken over. I was talking to a trader friend of mine that told me his company have developed software to trade the stock market and his job won't be around for much longer.

    Eukaryotes
Things were all fine when the earth's only living beings were bacteria but they got notions and evolved into eukaryotes which triggered a chain of evolutions that led us to our current mess.
