Turning off water at the Mains

    Hello,

I was recently trying to replace the ballcock and valve in the attic tank as it is not closing and I have a constant overflow trickle.  However I wasn't able to disconnect the mains as the valve in the house is seized and turning the tap on it is not working.  The valve is also in a difficult to access spot so working on it is not feasible.

Can I temporarily disconnect the supply at the meter under the manhole outside my property?

    Thanks.

    Hi dbpackers,

    Thanks for your message.

In order to turn off your supply from the public mains to your property, you can switch your supply off using the outside stop valve located in your meter box.

Once the works are complete you can turn back on your supply, as the outside stop valve is on publicly accessible land.

I hope this information helps, please let me know should you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Agata

Hi, I tried turning off the water supply at the road so I lifted the water meter cover and tried to turn the water of using the supplied blue plastic handle. However the switch won't budge at all.. Is there a metal tool I can get to do this? It seems the water guys tightened it to much when installing the new meter.

    Hi tommyphelan,

    Thanks for your message.

We are sorry to read that you are currently experiencing difficulty with the meter box handle.

If there is a blue handle inside the meter box, it must be pressed down until it clicks. To turn off the water from the mains supply, turn the valve handle one quarter of a rotation clockwise. To turn on the water supply turn the valve handle one quarter of a rotation anti-clockwise.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Micheal
