    2 Simple questions.

    i) Playing knockout championship game, when you are the underdog and going to be up against it. Do you play with or against the wind for the first half.


    ii) Playing knockout championship game, against a team who you are favourite to beat. Do you play with or against the wind for the first half.

    Always play with it. It may be stronger in the 2nd half but you don't know that. Go with what's actually happening at the present moment.

    Played in a junior county final where we had a gale in first half and were eight points up at half time and lost by two. So would be inclined to play against.

    I also remember Dublin hurlers in Dungarvan building some ridiculous lead against Waterford in late 90s with aid of Hurricane Ophelia's aunt, and defending it, so don't think there is any science here!

    Waterford in fact built a big lead with the wind against Galway in league semi final this year and then for some bizarre reason brought everyone back behind the ball for the second half and lost badly.

    Always remember a league game against Kildare in Navan in the late 90s. We played against what felt like a hurricane in the first half and failed to score. Think we were 10 or 11 down at half time. Almost as soon as the half time whistle blew, the rain stopped, the clouds parted, the sun came out and the wind became almost completely calm. Always say take the wind in the first half if it's there.
